I know!!! Come on, Carrie Fisher is not the greatest actress ever but I cannot imagine someone else as Leia. Same with Mark as Luke.

Good acting skills will not ensure a successful movie if the directing is not good: best example the PT.

the issue to me is not whether he looks like Han Solo or can do an impersonation of Han Solo, but whether we can buy him recreating the character as his own. we don't want an attempt at a facsimile of Harrison Ford and we don't just want someone who can fake the mannerisms.

Adam Driver is a great casting choice for Kylo Ren because he's just naturally got mannerisms and some physical features that you can buy being genetically/environmentally handed-down. he's not "acting" Solo, he's just acting. and if prior to TFA someone had shown me a picture of Adam Driver and told me: this is Han Solo's kid, i probably would have punched them in the nose for lying.

maybe when we see this guy in the role, moving, talking, doing his thing, he'll be just fine. maybe he'll surprise us.

still don't want them to make this movie at all, but i guess i'll watch it, regardless ~ hahaha.

When they announced Adam Driver I immediately knew who he would be playing, they have a few similarities in their facial structure, like you said; we can imagine this guy being genetically descended from Han Solo. It was pretty brilliant, and I'd only seen him in two movies before that. I didn't feel like he was a huge standout in either of them, and it was fine. He did a fantastic job in TFA.

You're absolutely right about seeing him in the role first. But much like eating, I look at actors playing younger versions of characters with my eyes first. And this fella just seems to be another of those Hollywood flavors of the month. It doesn't usually work out in SW when those folks are cast. Natalie Portman was awful in the PT, and so was Hayden Christenson, even though I've seen them fare okay in other films that actually had a director to work with them.

You can put him in the costume and write some dialogue for him, but when my eyes are telling me it's a different guy, I'm not going to be able to immerse myself in the story very deeply.

This is the first SW film I will not be watching in the theater on the day it comes out, although R1 is tentatively already holding that position currently. After the teaser trailer my interest dropped in R1 quite a bit, but I am still holding off until after I get marketed and pandered to a bit more over the next few months.

yeah, it's rough. i never saw Adam Driver before (like, not ever), so i am speculating on my own reaction, but now having seen him in a number of things and just his interviewing manner, he's just clearly similar to Harrison Ford in a variety of ways ~ it makes sense and so it totally works.

i've never seen Ehrenreich in anything either. in fact, that picture is the only thing i know about him right now ~ hahaha. it might be all i ever know if i want to try to keep myself from getting any more prejudiced against him.

That's not a good example. Do better. I would claim "The Force Awakens", but I feel that movie was torpedoed by bad writing, not bad directing. I can still dump the blame on Abrams, though.

As for Alden Ehrenreich . . . I'll have to wait and see how he does. I've always liked him as an actor.

This could probably ruin his career if it's not done right for us .

It's like having dreams where people do not look the same as they do in real life... I don't like that.

They should use aging technology on Harrison Ford instead og recasting the part. i'm not gonna like this one bit.

I would like to see this young man be given a chance, I'm sure Harrison would say the same.

Personally I don't particularly care what the new Han Solo actor looks like as long as he is right for the part, and we have no reason to suspect that Alden Ehrenreich or the Solo movie will be bad. (IMHO, those of you who decide NOW that this film is going to suck are creating your own missery which you then attempt to pass onto others like some hate virus; stop it, children!). That said, the likeness or lacking thereof of Ehrenreich to Ford could be something Lucasfilm is concerned about. I wonder... it should be possible, in our day and age, to augment Ehrenreich's appearance with co-cap, Avatar-wise, shouldn't it? If they wanted to and could be bothered to, I mean? Every Star Wars feature ever made has pushed the envelope in some way, and perhaps Solo will be the film that fixes the new-actor-in-established-roll thing? I don't mind it if they don't end up doing this, but I find it an intriguing thought :)

Interesting point of view. I don't know exactly how to feel about a young Han Solo spin-off; I might give them the benefit of the doubt, they might do something good, they might not. I guess it will be on each fan to decide if they want to see it or not. I don't know yet.

Someone needs to break out a CHi and straighten his hair, give him a tan, and then lets see him in the costume and vest.
