Or, pretty sure Jedi master Cin Drallig agree on that, just reverse the letters from the name of the actor.

Lets put Steven Spielberg as a cameo in the movie....

You'll be....huh.... Jedi master Grebleips Nevets

Is there really a difference though. The OT wasn't filmed in 3D so we want to keep the aesthetic pure, but its ok to break that aesthetic with Imax? Both are visual gimmicks meant to expand the visceral viewing appeal of a movie and sell higher priced tickets. Both can take you out of the movie if it becomes clear that a scene was not intended to be shown in traditional 2D 35mm (yes I'm looking at you Dark Knight's Imax scenes).

Both can be advantageous if handled well, and both can be detrimental if tacked on to make more money. When used properly, 3d can move past the old 50's gimmicks of throwing things at the screen and give you deep immersion into a foreign world as it did on Avatar. We just have to trust that Abrams will know how far to go and what will and won't take us out of the film when viewing in its pure 35mm 2D format, which is how most will view it. I don't need 3D. If it has it, I likely won't see it that way the first time to avoid any distractions. But if done right I don't see any harm. You will still have the option to see it with or without. if you don't like it, see it in 2D. As long as JJ does his job and keeps it seamless, it shouldn't make a difference and may actually add a level of immersion we have yet to see in SW.

Agreed. I just like the sound of the IMAX theatre more than anything and usually if a fil is in 3D the only option for IMAX is 3D. I just find that 3D can give me a headache from ey strain and sometimes the action scenes can get blurred. I guess we'll see. I trust JJ will give us the best presentation possible though.

Another point to consider is that across the US of A, 100s of "IMAX" & "3D IMAX" screens either aren't in the proper format or the lighting/sound/machines are out of spec/need serviced. :(
The late Robert Ebert made this point a few years ago while he was still doing film reviews/articles.
Michael Bay went on the same warpath prior to the wide release of Transformers; Dark Side of The Moon.
He was upset about the issues with US theaters 3D quality & audience problems(screen quality, speakers, lights, etc).

It's also well known many smaller(towns, villages, city) movie theaters are WAY behind in film industry upgrades. They can't play newer DV features. Digital or THX sound quality aren't top of the line either.

This is really a huge problem. I took my kids to see Big Hero 6 in 3D this weekend. The screen was ripped, which immediately ruins the 3D effect. And the bulb on the projector was so dim, it made the movie impossible to see. On my 3D TV at home, watching cg cartoons is close to a perfect experience, due to the consistent brightness and lack of screen flaws. But in a theater, it was overwhelmingly distracting from the overall experience. And lets not even go into their poor excuse for surround sound. Its to the point where I'd rather watch many blockbusters at home as the experience is better overall than paying 12 dollars to go and have it done "professionally".

Its just indicative of the sad state of the theater industry. They've pretty much all shunned using union projectionists. I have a couple friends who had to find new careers because theaters would rather have a 16 year old nose picker in control of the projection than pay a qualified professional. Its sad, because in the current climate people can enjoy these films at home quicker and in better conditions than ever. Movie theaters have two things going for them. The cinematic and social aspects of seeing a film in a theater. Yet, people talk on their phones and the presentation is flawed, so what value are they really selling? If they continue on this path, theaters will be reduced to a niche in the next 20 years. Its just sad.

Yeah, I can imagine how some of us living in big cities, I myself am from NYC, are spoiled with top of the line 3D theaters.
James Camron also supervised the image quality in over 200 theaters across USA to promote his Avatar film, that's why
it looks so good I guess.
