    We do have one non-whiny interpretation of Anakin - that of Matt Lanter in The Clone Wars, which did a lot for me personally in accepting Anakin as Vader and caring for the character at all, which wasn't exactly the case in the prequels. Just shows that Lucas did a great job when he had collaborators. The slow fall to the Dark Side was done so well in The Clone Wars.

    I always imagine that it was a two-way learning process: Lucas as a guru to Dave Filoni and Co. and them as foil for George's more out there ideas.

    TCW explains the difference in personality between AOITC and ROTS because Anakin seems more comfortable and mature in his body in the third one .

    Would say Luke is pretty much mature in ROTJ, but he does do that thing on the shuttle where he gets all "I've endangered the mission. It's a male trait, Leia doesn't whine, gets angry and frustrated, it's still not a done deal if Rey is a Skywalker or not.

    Anakin fully embraced the dark side of the force, lost his wife and children, and had several limbs cut off while almost being burned to death. He was put back together as half-man, half-machine by an evil Sith Lord. I think his life went through enough to reasonably believe his personality and behavior would be completely different as Darth Vader.

    By the time ROTS ends, he's a broken man who knows and is aware that he has done some really terrifying/horrible things...he wants quit everything but he can't or he will die so it's too late for him so he just gives in to that hatred and fear to become what he is...that's why he feels so...robotic( ;) ) by the time of A New Hope.

    I agree 100%. Just by looking at this picture he already reminds me of Vader a lot more than Christensen. His face and head shape is even similar to Sebastian Shaw's at the end of ep VI.
    Its not the first bad casting choice done by Lucas though. During the casting of Anakin in ep I there was a much better child actor than Jake Lloyd, who even reminded me of Mark Hamill a bit...

    He gets corrupted by the dark side, loses his entire family partly because of his own actions, gets turned into a half-machine, half-man monster and proceeds to spend the next 20 years doing what? Being in the military, hunting down Jedi, rebels and stuff in between in addition to falling deeper and deeper into the dark side of the force. He is no longer a person. The Dark Side would cloud everything he does in addition to the time he spends within the Empire either with Tarken, the Emperor or otherwise. I'd buy it. I could easily see none of his former personality traits following him through those changes. Even Obi-Wan would say Anakin is dead.
