I think we as the audience can look at that situation with hindsight and justify it so, but if you focus on the characters in that moment, there and then, I'd suggest Cassian is putting a reflexive 'no risks' approach above all else. I think we see this attitude when he kills the guy in Ep 1, but it's not reflexive, and he owed him nothing - it's established he will kill if he has to, but the bar for than necessity needs to drop between now and Rogue One.

Loved that table and its perspective in the very first bar. But during my second viewing, looking for the classic screenshots section, it looked so familiar. And...

Is this a reference to the data vault scene from Rogue One, where the DS plans are?
I really can see it :)

I haven't watched the 3rd episode, but outside the opening scenes that set up the main story (Andor killing the bad guys), this is pretty bland. Great start, but I struggled to stay interested. Production value is excellent. I like the droid.

One of the more interesting things about the first 3 episodes to me is the character Syril Karn. He's set up here as the antagonist, but really is he? Two men are murdered and he brings it to his superior who essentially tells him to cover it up. Is that really the right thing to do? Syril feels that it's his duty to find the killer. That causes him to pursue the matter himself until he finds where Andor is and attempts to arrests him. This ends up costing the lives of several people and Andor escapes. Andor is set up as the hero here but to be fair what has Syril Karn done wrong? I guess he when behind his boss' back and honestly investigated this, but that's abotu it. I'm sure this will set in motion Syril as joining the empire, but this kind of storytelling is fabulous because it's not so simple. I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the Syril. I'm sure that's not by accident.

I love when shows have time to breath with more episodes per season. The frantic rush you see in 8 episode shows is a distraction and never gives you a chance to get attached to characters.

Go for the third. Is pretty amazing and realistic its tension and action and sets the mood for the epicness that will follow.

Crosshair, The Bad Batch : good soldiers follow orders.
I'm sure there's something around (or about) that.
Syril did not follow the orders, and all ended in a tragedy : his men are dead, he was hunted and humiliated by the one he was previously hunting, and finally his prey has escaped.
Everything gone wrong! Remember how he was shocked at the end of ep3.

ONE QUESTION TO ENGLISH SPEAKERS : are the dialogue dubbed during the Kenari scenes involving the indian-like people and young Cassian ?
In the French version, they are not. Thereby, we are intended to understand "what we want" as they speak. I wanted to know if it is the same in the original version.

I'm pretty happy with what has been shown to us so far. It's the slow burn in a tiny slice of huge Empire in this time period. For perspective, I've recently started watching Marvel's Agents of Shield. Watching that show is like watching a Jack Russell Terrier on meth with all the plot swings and character bombs. My observations/theories:
-I really liked Chief Hyne, the contrast between him and Syril Karn is so drastic to me. His experienced outlook and well-thought out reaction to some of his employees being killed compared to Syril's was fantastically done. You can just feel the misguided fanaticism oozing off Syril. As someone said, you almost feel sorry for him, but the Empire was filled with fools like this. Hyne is what picture when I think of Gilad Pellaeon of SW Legends when I picture him in my mind.
-my guess about whatever happened at Kenari is that somehow it will be linked back to a Emperor/Chancellor Palpatine scheme thus earning Cassian's hate and enmity forever.
-Thank you for putting the BBY date on the opening scene. I wish they had put it on the Kenari scenes, though that was probably intentional, hence us all wondering on it.
    -I would have thought that s h i t would have been pronounced "s h i t e" with that accent?
-Brasso was so likable to me that I have convinced myself he will die in some horrible way.

It is the same for English-language versions of the show. The Kenari language spoken in the flashback scenes is neither dubbed nor subtitled.

Crosshair followed orders. Syril simply investigated a murder he was urged to ignore because of corruption. One of the fascinating parts of this story so far is the lack of a clear good/evil.

Syril is not investigating a murder. He is assuming that there is a murder, without benefit of evidence, so that he can bring in the suspect. He assumes the suspect is guilty, again without question. He goes about the hunt without regard for cost of any kind, in order to gain prestige for himself. He is in fact part of the corruption, even if he is partially correct. There might be a good motive mixed in there somewhere, but it's pretty hard to find in all the self-aggrandizement.

He was ordered not to investigate and bury the matter to avoid catching the attention of the Empire. His actions will have no doubt done exactly that. Following his debacle I can see the Empire arriving to establish order. It could go either way with Karm, he could be attracted to the Empire’s methods or he could end up hating being under their thumb, causing him to go completely the opposite way.

That's not a crime and a normal part of investigating the death of two people. One who was obviously executed at close range.
Bringing in support to apprehend someone who likely killed one and executed another is pretty common in modern day police.
He was encouraged to let it go. That's corrupt. This is what is so fascinating about this storytelling. It's how quickly fans who are watching this justify the actions of "our hero."
