I liked how Luthen's speech sounded almost prepared. He's clearly a persuasive man. He's had years of experience coaxing people to act for their cause. No doubt he's had more than one person ask him what price he pays. Everything he says is still true though.

I agree that it was prepared. Luthen, not too unlike Lonni, is acting every day. The transition back to the antiques dealer on the Fondor "told" that visually. It's a really good plot device (along with the speech) that gives a fair amount of backstory in a matter of seconds.

This series has been a master class in great acting by a number of well-known and relatively unknown actors. Andor has done an incredible job of highlighting how a great actor can give considerably more subtext, meaning, and depth to a story than you'd expect simply reading the dialogue written on the script pages.

I like how the circumstance of this episode recontextualizes that scene with Saw.

It’s presented as a defeat that Luthen couldn’t broker an alliance between these two rebel cells on account of Saw’s unwillingness to compromise his lofty ideals. But then this episode basically vindicates Saw’s skepticism, with Luthen readily sacrificing the crew he was suggesting Saw team up with.

If Saw had been less dubious and more willing to partner for that job, he’d have been leading his team right into that trap. He made the right choice, but for the wrong reason. Yum yum yum - delectable.

In light of this incident, it's interesting to speculate what might have happened to Vel's group had Luthen not decided to throw Cassian into the mix. Vel and Cinta might have been thrown to the wolves too had they not been successful. It doesn't sound like Luthen would have been the least bit interested in rescuing them.

Considering her cousin was secretly funding his operations, I don’t think Vel would have simply been thrown to the wolves.

Luthen's primary goal at Aldhani was to get an overreaction from the Empire. The money seems secondary. He must have known two things:
1)If the mission had failed, the Imperial reaction would not have been so severe.
2)If the mission failed, there would've been nobody left to rescue. Vel and her crew knew that. Either they escaped with a cargo hold full of credits, or they would die in the fight.

Perhaps not that readily, but I also don't think he would risk it all to save Vel if it came to it. I don't think she would expect that either, she knows the stakes of what she's involved with now, as well as her cousin.

It is interesting to think of that trio, though. And even Kleya as well, who I swear holds more station than we have yet to see. Luthen, Mon Mothma, Vel, and Kleya... who came first? Who recruited who?

iirc, when Luthen introduced Klem to Vel, he clearly said her he would cancel the mission if she did not accept him in the group.

Luthen is clearly "in charge" of Vel and her team. He also says to her, "You wanted to lead, this is what it takes" or something similar... On Coruscant, Kleya tells Vel, "I recruited Taramyn myself..."

Luthen and Kleya are acting as a de facto Rebel Alliance. They have built a network of financial supporters(Mothma), black market equipment channels(Bix), intelligence assets(Lonni) and soldiers(Vel, Cinta) and have maintained relationships with other anti-Imperial sects like Saw G, Anto Kregyrr, Mai Pei, etc... They are recruiters. There are multitudes of factions of all sizes in the Galaxy, and Luthen knows that a unified effort is the only way to defeat the Empire. He's counting on the post-Aldhani Imperial regulations to draw some of these splinter cells into the light. It appears that's exactly what's about to happen on Ferrix.

Fellow Cantinians, just catching my breath, sorry....just saw Ep 10 tonight, had to binge watch 7-11 to get caught up.

For starters, IMO, Ep 10 was the best single SW TV episode to date, including all series so far...

First, the writing in this series is so very very very good. Best of any series so far. Luthen's monologue about what sacrifices he has made for the Rebellion probably one of the best written and delivered in all of SW on the screen.

Second, the raw emotion of the escape. And Melshi along with Andor....really makes Melshi's appearance in R1 so much more impactful.

Andy Serkis as Kino. Wow. Emotional and believable character 100%. When he made his decision..."We are DONE with counting shifts. There is only then, and now. There is only one way out. Play it how you want, but I am going to assume I am already dead." - WOW - WOW .... so powerful.

This escape to me, was a microcosm of the rise of the Rebellion.....

So what are they building on Narkina 5? Lots of discussion on the internet about this. I’ve been doing some measurements and research and here is what I have come up with.

they are building the center attach points that attach the wings to a TIE Fighter. It makes sense, center point with six arms attached. See pix below. Also the fact they need a crapload of these things….

Yeah, that was my guess too, a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why the TIE wing centers would need to be jointed, though, unless its for TIE Outlanders, or some similar varriant? Or perhaps TIE Interceptors and Bombers and similar crooked-winged TIEs can now fold their wings?

I don’t think they are “jointed” allowing movement. Jus because they use large pins in compression does not mean the unit moves.

Definitely possible, but it would be a wasted story element if it was for something that does not advance the plot. I'm sticking with "Death Star parts" or something recognizable that will play a role in the S2 plot.

Ok one more thing about Narkina 5….anyone else notice the visual similarity to Lucas’ THX 1138 with the white walls, floor, etc? Maybe a homage to him? So many questions , need to have dinner with Tony Gilroy to talk with him LOL!!

Yep. Check out The Hollywood Reporter article with him, he discusses the prison, what they're building there, and a lot of other great insight to the series.
