Booted From TFN Boards after 3-4 Years

I haven't really visited the TFN nor have I heard of it until today but I'll never leave the cantina because of the great community and friends that I made here. It sounds like I couldn't even function over there at all.

So I log into TFN this morning and it says I've been banned without explanation or warning.

Such a great site.

 

I think I will sustain from that for now, DC. But thanks anyway!

@Bendak Starkiller & I were friends over at the TFN and now we have both migrated over here due to a number of reasons. We are both looking to start off fresh here.

Well, I have an idea, but I'm not even going to humor the mods over there asking about my ban.

Maybe they should stop banning people without hearing both sides of the story, but this is TFN we're talking about. Logic and common sense doesn't exist there.

And yes, @Jawa Infiltrator and I look forward to starting over here far from that awful, awful site.

 

TFN gave me a lifetime ban in 2006 after the release of the Non-Anamorphic OOT DVD's. (I was Cjedi72) It was an utter civil war there as many like myself said the release was an offense to fans because it was crappy quality. Then a segment of TFN loved that OOT fans like me 'were getting what we deserved' as they would say in every thread.

It was just odd that fellow SW fans were happy that Lucas was releasing a crappy DVD version of the Original Movies just because they supported the SE changes. Nobody was ever saying that they should love the OOT versions, but to actively root for a crappy release was very strange. So around the time of the OOT release, the whole website went nuclear with OOT vs SE fans, and they pretty much banned every OOT fan. (I believe it was intentional to make it seem like no one cared about the OOT when new members signed up). We ended up going to ORS message board, and eventually many of those same people ended up here when the ST was announced.

I have to say that I have never had problem with anyone here, even if we disagree. TFN is really like a Tyranical Government, as they are the Palpatine of SW forums!

 

TFN doesn't ban people just for contrary opinions, but if you make a fuss about those opinions (especially if they're contrary to the subforum's core consensus), rub them in people's faces etc. as I did, you increase the likelihood of a mod noticing you, or giving you a warning, or similar - and once that happens, you won't necessarily get a "fair trial", and probably should stop acting sassy if you don't want to get perma'd (or make another account, as I did).

So you can survive there if you kind of keep your head down (not too much, just sufficiently) - but once they notice you, the mods there definitely enjoy their power over you


Which, that reminds me, the 2nd time I got banned from there for starting trouble (it wasn't that bad, really), it was by a female moderator - first she gave me a warning, we seemingly resolved the issue, but then I found myself suspended all of a sudden.

So I'm like "?", and she replied that "yes, you and I talked" and she "appreciated my acknowledgement of the rules", but the offense still warranted a ban.

Found that rather hot, I won't deny.

 

No doubt I wasnt an angel when I got banned, as I just got fed up with all of the SE fans gloating that about the crappy OOT DVD versions, so I started to fire back at them, and as you said, I got noticed by the mods and I was on a short leash. I would PM and ask them why they were allowed to talk about the OOT fans as the main rule there was 'The Films not the fans.' But most of the mods seemed to be Pro-SE, so they had no sympathy for me. Once everything went nucleur there they cleaned house the week of the OOT DVD release.

 

That was in the mid '00s, right?

I've really no idea how the face of that forum changed and morphed over all these years - but during the last year, the PT forum saw a (gradual?) arrival of "critics" which resulted in it turning from "almost entirely fanboy domain" to a hotbed of debates and discussions.

One guy, that guy I linked to a few pages ago, recently got a warning after months of acting like a complete **ckster, but overall nothing much happened - mods occasionally turned up telling people to calm down a bit, but that's about it.

So definitely not the situation you were facing

Yet I've seen people make out of this world comments in the JCC section and yet the mods there are more patient towards people like them for some reason. Like this one guy made a complete joke about 9/11, making fun of it but he was never warned, more so you could say the mods were on his side.
The mods seem to not be able to rise above their bias when it comes to wanting to have a fair debate whether politics or religion. I should know, they called me the worst names over there and not one mod stood up for me.

 

I'm a member of both forums, never had an issue on either. with TFN i think if you stick to the spoiler threads and those character threads, they tend to let a lot go.

 

You've never had an issue with the TFN? How long you been a member?

 

not long, June 2015. I've found the spoiler threads to be fine and i just skip any drama. Usually i try and post something very on topic if people are getting into a multi-page rant session. Never been warned or banned.

 

@Charlie07 Ah I guess that's why I haven't seen you cuz I tended to stick with the social threads, although I did tend to lurk around the JCC sometimes
