Lucasfilm has posted a new recap video to the Star Wars YouTube channel today. It includes a highlight reel of all the significant moments from seasons 1 and 2 of The Mandalorian, as well as The Book of Boba Fett, bookended with footage from the season 3 trailers.

It’s fun to take a trip down memory lane and see just how much the show has grown. From season 1, where the sets are smaller and the story is more localized, to what is clearly a bigger budget in season 2, with greater visual effects and the inclusion of renowned characters like Bo-Katan and Ahsoka.

Most important for casual viewers is the footage from The Book of Boba Fett of Din and Grogu’s reunion, and Din’s conversation with the Armorer about how he removed his helmet. The latter establishes his quest for season 3 and is stitched together nicely with footage from the trailer of Mandalore in ruins. I’m sure the first episode of season 3 will include a recap at the top of the episode (even Obi-Wan Kenobi had a recap of the events of the prequels before the first episode), but given the size of the audience for The Mandalorian, the more viewers Lucasfilm can fill in ahead of time, the better.

The series stars Pedro Pascal, Katee Sackhoff, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, and Amy Sedaris, and will feature episodes directed by Weathers, Rick Famuyiwa, Rachel Morrison, Lee Isaac Chung, Peter Ramsey, and Bryce Dallas Howard. Showrunner Jon Favreau wrote all eight episodes of the upcoming season, co-writing with Dave Filoni on two of the episodes, and co-writing with The Book of Boba Fett veteran Noah Kloor on one.

If you haven’t already, check out the recently released clip from season 3 here. The Mandalorian returns to Disney Plus on March 1, 2023.
