Arthritus was probably thinking something more along the lines of this. Perhaps it's time I get to writing my "back of the van" viewing guide as well.

Do you have any sites like Fandango or anything like that in the UK? They do sent updates about when tickets will be on sale if you sign up for their notifications, I believe you can specify the films which is what I did for TFA :)

UK might have different laws or procedures as far as movie ticket sales are concerned.

I did get one minor update... a film studio audio mixer (He mixed the audio for the WWII film "Fury") responded to a question of mine on AVS forum as to weather or not Star Wars would have a dolby Atmos mix (3D sound)... he responded with simply... "it will have an atmos mix :)"

I cheat, I go to a cheap shopping mall Cineplex on opening day so I don't have to fuss about long lines or guys dressed up like a Gundark without ears asking me to share my weed. :)

The Monday after the opening weekend, I find the best theater in town, stroll in a mere 5 minutes before it starts and watch it again.

The bigger problem for me is the reviews that will start trickling in by December 1. The first of them fake and telling us how terrible it is (with a healthy dose of "I told you so" from 4chan boys who delight in peeing in other people's soup), then the real ones from snot critics in Europe, the dull and disingenuous review that the NY Times will produce (because they always do) and the ridiculously manic "It's the greatest movie ever" that Harry Knowles will write and then finally the people here I admire (and there are several of you out there).

I want to avoid ALL of them before I see it and that's not an easy thing to do.

Do reviews really start so early? I regularly go to see films near opening weekend and will check the reviews prior to release, but I'm used to waiting until the Tue or Wed before Friday releases.

If previous films are any guide, fake reviews will poor in three weeks before release, then "real" ones come in about a week before.

I had access to an entire, pristine digital copy of AOTC a full week before release, I clicked it watched the opening scene with the Queen's ship, then stopped it and went, "what am I doing?" and then waited for its proper release. That's an extreme example, but if I was able to get AOTC a week before, others will too and their reviews will be out there.

Reviews for me are worse than spoilers, because its gets polluted with opinion on things that I can't formulate my own point of view on yet.

Way off topic though, choosing the right theater for me is watching it AWAY from diehards on the first day. Then going back to the best cinemas the Monday after the release. I like watching Star Wars in theaters full of neutral fans, because that's the way it was when Star Wars first released. It's easy to win over an audience of people in cosplay and steeped in anticipation, watching it in a neutral theater gives you a better sense of how America is going to receive the film.

It might sound silly but I actually am going to make it a point to see it the first time at our local iPic theater (like Alamo) because they're smaller, with reserved seats, and generally attended by well-behaved adults. I know for some the midnight showing experience with cheering is fun for them but I need to have relative quiet with minimal disturbance for first showing so I can concentrate.

We apparently do have an AMC prime in the area too, so I think for a second showing I'll try to go there.

Apparently the AMC in Vernon Hills is AMC Prime, which might be worth a trip out.

I definatly going to check into it. Only problem is im going with a couple of friends who may not want to fork out the cash for an amc prime ticket. Say i did though, do they have reserve seating and what time do you think the line would start forming, i wouldnt want to get stuck with a bad seat if i didnt make it thier in time.

AMC Prime has reserved seating :)

Are you near chicago? We should go see it... I'm by you it appears :) Maybe we can find other forum members here in Chicago, one of the moderators is out here too.

I plan to see it at Vernon Hills as well... in fact I'll be going to see Everest there a couple sundays from now so I'll get to see where the best seats are at.

Though for premier night I might go to the Navy Pier IMAX or the Woodridge IMAX.

Navy Pier has an ENORMOUS screen, the woodridge is smaller but still a great theater, both I believe will have the 70mm projection :)

(On that site you linked... if you look at the banner that says "filter by", it will show the option to click on Dolby Cinema/AMC PRIME. If you click on the tickets and follow it through you can look at seating assignment before purchasing tickets)

Everest will be the first HDR film... that will give you a good idea of how projected HDR will look :)
