Disney aren't all evil, they've given us a lot of Star Wars so far and they're giving us a theme park. Can't wait for that!!

Luke will turn out happier, I hope. Long live Mickey Mouse!

Sorry if this sounds repetitive. I agree with a lot of what's being said. I think Mark is grateful for being part of the ST and the franchise again as a whole. During principal photography, he said he was having the time of his life with the production. He obviously reveres Johnson. As the actor who, in a way, feels some ownership over how his character will be seen, does have a right to have his opinion on it. That's not to say Johnson's vision of Luke isn't a bad one, it just may be one Mark may have not thought it would go and might be out of his comfort zone. Once filming began, his fears went away. I was at the TLJ panel, and maybe, Mark was also trying to downplay Luke in a way so that the new actors could shine. (That's my guess since I was on information overload being there! LOL) But Luke is such a draw for this movie. Mark's always had his opinions on how characters should be portrayed, but he's been wrong on some of those counts. I think he may be wrong on this one. Don't expect an EU Luke. Regardless, I think Rian's version of Luke will be interesting and hopefully give some depth, emotion to Luke's arc in way Lucas couldn't. I want something different, but not to the point we don't "recognize" Luke. Give it a chance.

The crap online about Mark not liking TLJ is just people taking clips out of context and stringing them together to create a narrative in hopes it will generate clicks and views. Mark may have been surprised in the direction Rian is taking Luke but I don't think he is unhappy about it.

It's also jackasses staking claims early so they can crow if the movie isn't well received. It's typical of the scummy parts of the fanboy base. Crap all over anything because its easier than actually just enjoying things.

R.J. recently said he cared a lot about making sure Luke makes sense and that him and Mark got together to share those worries. The only way Mark doesn't like Luke is if they don't change Luke at all. R.J. wanted a non-cowardly reason for Luke to withdraw from the fight. That's says enough for me.

Mark, Carrie and Harrison all have felt free to joke hard, and leave no topic off limits. Its always spoken of after the fact as funny and seemingly unresented. Harrison once told Lucas regarding the dialogue "you write this but you can't say it." So a lot of Mark I think is he has always felt free to speak. From interviews even from the OT era Luke had ideas he was always pushing, like Luke going dark but switching back.

Even though Mark said he fundamentally disagreed with everything Ryan was doing with Luke, I feel it's Mark being overprotective of the character and he just hopes the fans don't backlash; which I seriously doubt we'll do.

Fewwwww! I had heard Rian mention this being an Oscar worthy performance by Mark, that got me excited for Luke to be portrayed a bit more seriously. NO OFFENSE!! I found Luke made out to be a bit of a B*tch in the original trilogy, he never really seemed to reach that stoic Jedi sense. I want this movie to make Luke FEEL like a force-gifted wise Jedi (the way it feels when Morgan Freeman plays God)

    NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Broken... OK. But only in the Obiwan failure to Anakin kinda broken. Luke's character needs to be shown reaching an actual wise Jedi level. He wasn't quite there at the end of ROJ. Smart, calm... SURE he was. But not full Obiwan or Yoda feeling.
    Much to learn he had

Yoda theoretically wasn't supposed to, either. But he did during Order 66. Because he has a thing called empathy, and he isn't some apathetic monster without a shred of humanity.

The PT era Jedi were not the ideal people to uphold the philosophy. The PT's entire point is to show how they were wrong and what future Jedi can learn from their failure.

Not to isolate themselves as much, while at the same time not allowing themselves to be drawn so much into galactic politics and affairs.

Sure the reign of the Jedi end, the laws and council like existence of the Jedi YES. This is just another way to say be accepting of the dark. No more being the exact opposite of the Sith. Teeter the line of dark and light like the Je'daii. BALANCE

This yet again proposes the balance is between light and dark. Going against what Lucas explained about the cosmic and living force. Also it ignores that the light and dark are not intended to be understood as GOOD and EVIL. This means teetering the line implies willing to do evil sometimes. As if amorality is preferable to believing in good ideals. In acstory aimed at giving kids a story about good and evil.

They're definitely not evil but the way they're developing the brand, while making a lot of money regardless, isn't necessarily the best steps

On one hand, I get why Mark Hamill would disagree. Especially, given how Rian Johnson isn't the type to go conventional with his tales. On one hand, yeah I am willing to believe Mark on this, next to Carrie he has been one of the most active individuals for the franchise. And really is so grateful to all the fans and what it had done for his career. I say this as someone who met him a while back at the celebration; he does care about the fans. Heck, he loved a lot of the Legends continunity as well. :)

But at the same time, I do think he did state he trusts Rian Johnson and I can understand his frustration because TFA didn't have him do anything. I'd like to think TFA was the easiest paycheck he every earned. :) But jokes aside, my thing with Luke is that this movie needs to address what happened post-ROTJ. What caused his temple to collapse and who is Luke now?

I am not above to Luke being devastated. I can understand why due to his own nephew destroying the temple. But the last thing I want for him is to be like Yoda and say "I refuse to train you, Rey." Luke's best quality to me is his willingness to never give up. And while Rey could convince him out of his stupor, in my view the more brave choice would be to have Luke train Rey out of his own volition.

Namely, him realizing that Rey is in the same spot as he was in(told of the legendary Yoda by Ben. Luke Skywalker a myth/legend to Rey) and that the galaxy needs him. Especially, with Han Solo now dead.

I think, fundamentally, this Jar Jar Abrams guy is right about Mark Hamill being disappointed. I remember the panel where he discussed The Force Awakens and I came to the same conclusion. Does that mean he's unhappy or doesn't want to be involved in the sequel trilogy? No. And by all accounts, he seems really happy with The Last Jedi.

But as @NinjaRen said, it does sound like he had similar expectations to many of us, i.e., that Luke would now be a seasoned Jedi who would do awesome things and get a decent amount of screen time. And heck, we know that that was what happened, more or less, in the Michael Arndt version, because he talked about Luke overwhelming everyone else when he showed up. So I would say that the initial "disappointment" was shared by many people who saw the movie expecting something else.
