Damon Lindelof Exits 2025 Star Wars Film, New Writer(s) Taking His Place; Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Remains Attached as Director

Ah, I see. Thanks for the insight. I never thought of it that way before, but that makes a lot of sense. All the more reason then for them to take their time with the next film.

 

I was disappointed when Rogue Squadron was shelved. Have always thought a movie about the origin of the X-Wing and Garven Dreis would have been cool also……wish someone would put together a storyboard on this …cough cough wink wink nudge nudge…..

 

Lucasfilm made a big deal out of the new project being a Lindelof SW movie. It's yet another example of hype followed by a red-faced 'nevermind.'

I don't consider myself a member of the 'hate brigade' but I'm skeptical that Lindelof bowed out because of 'self doubt' or fearing the 'SW mobs.' It reminds me of a coach stepping down from a high-profile gig in order to "spend time with the family."

Oh well, it is was it is. But it sure strikes me as the latest example of an organization that doesn't have its act together.

It's been 4 days since it was confirmed that he WAS working on a SW project. This could be just part of the process, or... It could be false. Gasp!
IF this is true, and of his own doing, I get it. He wouldn't be the first high-profile filmmaker to express these concerns. Kevin Smith said something very similar about just being a fan and nor wanting the pressure.

Again, nothing is official until probably Celebration, and very recently, several execs including Bob Iger has clearly stated that the next SW movie must be done right and be great. That statement was aimed directly at the fans, because, cmon, in what world is a statement like that necessary, except for this one where there are thousands of self-proclaimed experts who believe they know better than the actual producers.

Yes and yes. I'm just not gonna put any thought into it until something official is announced at Celebration.

It's called Red Leader, and it's awesome. If only we had a link to it...

 

Lucasfilm hasn't said anything official about this project so I'm curious how they've made a big deal out of it. If this was any other film project we wouldn't know anything about it. It's not uncommon for films to go through writing changes a lot in pre-production. Heck, go look at the pre-production for Top Gun: Maverick. An army of writers worked on and off for years on that project.

 

Christ, I really wish I could just back-burner this whole thing, but...

I just re-read the OP and it states that Damon and Justin "decided to leave mid-February" yet, it was just published in mid-March that Damon officially acknowledged that they were working on a SW project... Something is giving off an odor here. Everybody is clamoring for headlines as Celebration gets closer. Maybe someone read too much into his comments and his reservations...
I don't know. I hope things between him and LFL are good, I've been a big fan since Lost, and the guy is just good at what he does. I would hate to think that whatever is happening in the Movie side might have run off such a strong talent.

Anyways, now I'm looking forward to what SWC announces and how it's received. (Outside of filmed and releasing D+ shows.)
