It was announced during Star Wars Celebration that Dave Filoni would be directing an upcoming feature film that would act as the 'culmination' of all the storylines set up by The Mandalorian and spin-off shows like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, or Skeleton Crew.

But is 'culmination' the right word? In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, as part of their 20-page coverage on the Star Wars franchise for the new issue, Filoni weighed in on how well that word defines his film:

As he went on to explain, the movie will be centered around a big event, something to pin down in the timeline that could mark a 'before' and 'after' -- think of Luke blowing up the Death Star, Vader telling Luke he's his father, the defeat of the Empire, etc. Here's what he said:

The writer-director says he has an idea for it but isn't revealing what that is yet. According to him, he's been setting this up for years:

We know that Dave Filoni will be directing, and that he and Favreau will be executive producers on the film, like we've come to expect from everything set in the New Republic Era. What we don't know yet is who will be writing it, though we can't imagine it will be someone other than the two of them.

No release date has been set for the yet-untitled film, though according to reports, Lucasfilm is internally targeting to release it in theaters the year after the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed film about Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order.
