With The Mandalorian about to wrap up its third season, series executive producer and creative Dave Filoni made some comments about the season finale set to air next week. Speaking with Collider during Star Wars Celebration, Filoni stated that he thinks the ending will have fans “cheering” and give them plenty to think about. While the comments were made before Chapter 23 premiered, in light of the episode’s debut, Filoni’s statements could be worth speculating on. Conversely, another cast member is teasing that fans might have a different reaction to seeing the season finale.

Spoiler alert for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 7...

With one of the more critically acclaimed episodes of the season premiering this week (read our review here), a lot of suspense remains going into the last episode. In the most recent one, Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze take a scouting party to explore the depths of Mandalore. Upon doing so, they uncover a hidden base where Moff Gideon has been hiding and collecting resources for further development of his new troopers, equipped with beskar armor, much like himself. In the ensuing battle, Din Djarin is taken captive, while Bo-Katan and her group make a hasty escape.

In that interview with Collider during Star Wars Celebration, Filoni stated regarding expected fan reaction to the season finale, “I hoped they really enjoyed it [laughs]. I think they’ll have a lot to think about.” He also went on further to state that:

Following the premiere of Chapter 23, The Spies, Filoni’s comments hint at a possible positive outcome for Bo-Katan, Din, and the remaining Mandalorians. Perhaps Din will manage to break free and Bo-Katan and the rest of the Mandalorians will be able to set up shop on their homeworld, but with the chapter ending with a tease of Grand Admiral Thrawn. This would line up, especially with what was revealed about Grand Admiral Thrawn in this last chapter, where Moff Gideon and the remaining Imperial officers know about Thrawn’s return but, as of yet, don’t know where he is. This would also be in line with The Mandalorian’s previous season finales ending with big surprises and character reveals.

Similarly, Brendan Wayne, one of the many actors under the helmet for Din Djarin, made an ominous comment about the upcoming finale (hat tip r/StarWarsLeaks) on his Instagram story. He said, “this next episode is gonna make you wish you hadn’t asked for more… it might just hurt too much.” Because we didn't see this story post before it expired, it is entirely possible Wayne is referring to the events of The Spies and the gut punches that were delivered. However, it’s unlikely considering the timeliness of the post.

With season 3 of The Mandalorian coming to an end next week, there is still much more Star Wars content on the way, including a lot more on the side of television. The Ahsoka live-action series is set for an August premiere and has also recently picked up The Expanse actor Wes Chatham as Captain Enoch, Thrawn’s right-hand man. Then there is also The Acolyte, the first Star Wars production set to be in the High Republic era, releasing in 2024, but not before Skeleton Crew lands later this year.

The season finale of The Mandalorian is set to premiere on April 19 on Disney Plus.

I can’t help but feel that the ‘hurt’ comment is going to come from one of the recurring support cast as this will be their end.
