Well, since there is no "General SW talk", and even though Tv Series are Canon material also, I decided to post this thread here.

When searching for some info on the Tosche Station, this question popped into my head.

Tosche station is mentioned by Luke, but the way it looks and some other characters related to it are only seen in ANH deleted scenes.

So, this deleted material, or any other deleted material that hasn't been added to any of Lucas' remastered editions, are considered Canon?

Good thought. I'd say it depends in the scene. Obviously if the scene contradicts or gets contradicted in any other movies/tv shows, it's non canon.
And if nothing happens with it, I guess it's up to whatever you want it to be.

I have to say not canon. The film makers chose to excise the scene from the movie for a reason. Just like an early draft of the script isn’t canon. The final product as approved by the director is the only thing that can be considered. The only exceptions would be scenes restored via director approved special edition. Those are included in a released final version of the film, so they would be considered canon.

I agree with this. For example, the Tosche Station scene sorta works, but only in the scenes between Biggs (Who is seriously awesome if you remember EU and stuff) and Luke. The Rebel Alliance talk in Revenge of the Sith seriously needs to be added back, it was really well done.

There were two different death scenes for Shaak Ti in the deleted scenes of Revenge of the Sith (1: Grievous kills her at the beginning, at the Invisible Hand, and 2: Anakin kills her at the Jedi Temple massacre). Back then, none of them were canon because Shaak Ti appeared in THe Force Unleashed, were she's finally killed by Starkiller.
Now that TFU is no longer canon, I wonder if one of the deleted deaths of Shaak Ti is canon now.

I would simply go with them not being canon. The very fact that they're deleted from the finished product means that a large swath of people will never see them. Only those of us who buy the films and then take the time to watch such scenes are in the know. To be honest, I'd even have a hard time remembering what they show since they way they're done on the last release was very slow and clumsy, and I haven't watched them in a very long time.

They're there to show a different direction either the story or the cinematography would've taken, or to show (often rough) scenes that were cut due to time constraints. It doesn't necessarily mean those things didn't happen... but it's not concrete enough for us to take them to be the facts.

Oh, and maybe you should put a poll on this? The title works perfectly for a poll.

Fans can't choose what's canon. We can only decide what we like. I can't decide that episode 6 isn't cannon, but the statement "Indiana jones is a time traveling han solo" is canon.

That's a very good and interesting question. But I would have to say that if the scenes were deleted then therefore I would not consider them canon.

its only canon if you can still use a character of that omitted scene in a sequel of that film. the biggs and friends characters made sense but the scene felt out of place. it had nothing to do about it being officially in the st universe, just a technical aspect.
