Anybody else think the former was a little underwhelming by comparison?

Like I've already seen this before, except a lot better.

It seemed like Starkiller Base actually turned back into the star that it drained. It was very strange.

One was an explosion, one was an implosion.

Of course the explosion looks more satisfying to the naked eye. But the implosion is more impressive IMO.

It was really cool to see Starkiller breaking up and having the planet-wide earthquakes. I also enjoyed the musical score as the Resistance flew away,

I thought it was nice that it wasn't the same sort of explosion. Yes there were plenty of similarities, but from a technical perspective, the Death Stars and the Starkiller are different, so it makes sense the explosions would be different too.

I just really hope deep down that we don't get another "super weapon" again which is what I liked aboutThe PT .

I hope so too. I'd prefer to see two armadas fight each other. So basically the opening scene from ROTS or the Battle of Endor without the second Death Star!

i still kinda wish they'd just crippled it rather than blown it up. i'm going to miss all that snow!

that said, it was a nice 'splosion. like @Commodore said, it appears to have restored the star it ate, which was kinda cool.

Answer this in your opinion: "How do you cripple a sun?"

the implosion of Starkiller was much more impressive because it was symbolical. The planet turned into a dark crust, but then imploded and transformed into a bright sun/light. Han fell to the core of the planet. Chewie blew a hole in the Oscillator. The light erupted from the inside of the planet when Starkiller blew up. It was Han coming back with a vengeance. It also symbolized Poe's earlier quote that "as long as there is light we have a chance". But it has another dimension. The blinding light of the implosion also stands symbolical for Luke (lucere light). Luke returns. :D

I think that was a bit too literal in TFA .

I expected The Finalizer to get smoked in the huge 3rd act battle too, (star destroyer) .

I had the impression the last conflict would set up either Snoke going into the fray himself or sending in ADM Thrawn in a huge Eclipse class ship.

I hate Thrawn. He is blue, has red eyes, and listens to classical music. Only the late 80s and early 90s could come up with that kind of Star Wars.
