I'm with you my friend. I am incredibly hyped for the anthology movies but I think it would have been much better and MUCH less confusing to the less hardcore fans if they would have finished the ST before giving us an anthology film.

No. The mistake would have been if they chose to make Rogue One before The Force Awakens. And that's very easily a mistake that they could have made - and they likely would have made it had Lucasfilm not been bought out by Disney.

They have to go with this version of him!

I have to disagree on this one my friend. Having finished the prequels, everyone's mindset was in that type of movie and it would have been perfectly acceptable as RO indeed goes right after ROTS. Everyone would have understood because they would have seen the Death Star being constructed at the end of the movie and RO exactly follows up on this story.

It's more confusing to lead the audience 30 years into the future where Vader's dead and Han got killed, then put them in the past where Vader's alive, to fast forward when he's dead again, go back next year to a movie where Han is alive and young again and then finally take us into the future where Vader and Han are both dead.

Perhaps Disney could have added something to the marketing to the likes of.........Before the first Star Wars - A New Hope, there was Rogue One, or Rogue One, the events that led up to Star Wars - A New Hope. Or something along these lines to help clarify the timeline to the average fan/movie goer.

If Lucasfilm would have done the reverse and released Rogue One before The Force Awakens, then people would have been confused about the absence of Jyn Erso in TFA. "What happened to Captain Cassian?"

Whether they continue making anthology films isn't the right question. It's whether anthology films should have ever been made in the first place.

    I for one say no.

Star Wars isn't third tier X-men crap.... all these anthology films do is cheapen the franchise, which after the PT and the disastrous TFA, admittedly isn't exactly at it's TESB peak anymore.

But still, even for Star Wars looong past it's prime, anthology spinoffs are immoral and wrong on so many different levels...they scream shameless cash grab at the highest decibels possible.

But it wouldn't have been an event movie on its own, or at least not one anywhere near the level that could compare to The Force Awakens. Sure, it'd be nice to see X-wings and TIE fighters again, and it'd make sense to make such a film after Revenge Of The Sith came out, but there's nothing matching the oomph of seeing Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO return after it had been presumed that their story officially ended back in 1983 with Return Of The Jedi. The only thing that comes close is James Earl Jones reprising his role as Darth Vader, and even then, we already know going in that his total screentime is probably going to be less than it was even in the original film (or possibly slightly more) - and it's abundantly clear that he's nowhere near the focus of the movie's narrative, unlike what happened with The Force Awakens (where the Original Trilogy characters have a little more than a third of the movie's narrative focus).

Let's not forget where this franchise started from - Episode IV, which is in the middle of things when looking at the overall Star Wars timeline. And God knows that this franchise wouldn't have been nearly as successful as it has been if we had started with the story of Episode I. Speaking of The Phantom Menace, there were reports that people thought that Anakin was going to grow up to be Luke at the time the movie was released. Yes, seriously. That should tell you that continuity is not as much of an issue for them as their overall love for the franchise. If you build it, they will come.

Agreed, but unfortunately the box office will have the final say... I personally hope its an anomaly and shatters all expectations but...

Well, death is apparently not a good enough reason for a character not to appear in a movie. I heard that some people were confused why Darth Vader was not present in TFA.

I think people are underestimating the intelligence of the movie goer in 2016. With the advent of the internet almost anyone can see a headline, or something that will illustrate this film isn't the continuation of Episode VII. The trailer shows the death star, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that these characters aren't Rey and Finn. I don't get why I have read so much about this average movie goer who is suddenly going to realize this movie isn't Episode VIII and be extremely upset and not understand whats happening. Yes, there will be some who need a little explaining but to believe the majority of people are not bright enough to know this isn't Episode VIII is funny to me.

Well you might think that way my friend but believe it or not, there are indeed LOTS of people like that out there. Even with the trailers out and the toys selling hot, I have had to deal with people who were real hyped about the next movie and when I told them that RO wasn't the further adventures of Rey, Finn and Poe but a prequel to ANH, these people got bummed and started saying that that sucked and asking why did Disney do that. So as strange as it may sound, having all the trailers, seeing Vader onscreen, not seeing BB-8, Luke, Leia, Rey ect, reading the title and everything, yes my friend, there are many people out there who are going to come out of the theatre real bummed because they are expecting to see Rey and the gang on Dec 15. It may sound weird but sadly it's the truth.
