Yeah, both Ezra and Sabine are exceptional portrayals of their Rebels characters. Hera has some really good moments, too! Really, almost bar-setting for how good of an adaptation these are.

I don't think we're gonna lose Ezra. Heck, I don't think we're gonna lose Hera, Ahsoka, or Sabine, either. Filoni is gonna need protagonists for his upcoming movie, especially since I don't expect Luke, Han, or Leia to play too major of a part.

 

Agreed. And parroting what you said, they are really are the standard from this point forward.... I mean, it's hard to fathom how they got the Grand Inquisitor so wrong when you look at Ezra and Sabine. Hera doesn't quite do it for me. And I don't know why. Thrawn; on the other hand, being played by Lars - I think he embodies the persona so well - especially with the dialed back voice, that his portrayal and appearance are spot on for the show. After all, what does a Chiss look like in live action?

Disappointing if true. Heir to Empire won't be the same without them.

 

Very true, it would not be. Luckily, we are only maybe getting a loose reboot adaptation of the Legends "classic". The way I see it, ol' Davey Boy is using HttE in the same way he is using LOTR. Inspiration. And as a unabashed detractor of those Zahn novels, I've gptta admit he has done an excellent job walking the line. I do see a clearer path to morph some of these old devices from the HttE trilogy with current Canon and the characters in this series. Elsbeth could become a version of Ruhk, especially if Thrawn were to backstab and eliminate the Mothers. Shin could very well be driven by the Death or loss of Baylan to hunt down but eventually melt to the Charms of Ezra, along the lines of Mara & Luke. Not even to mention how Jacen Syndulla could come to represent a version of Jacen Solo??

 

I can't see any narrative reason to kill of any major players at this point; the season is about bringing characters back into the fold, not eliminating them. The stakes here are Thrawn himself, his military forces and witches, (and possibly whatever, if anything, the NuCanon version of the Katana Fleet threat is going to be).

Thrawn will outsmart the heroes and return to the home galaxy as the season cliffhanger/next season setup, and all the heroes are going to follow him home, somehow.

Baylan might dramatically die (as there doesn't seem to be much of an arc set up for him), but none of the goodies will, I'm sure. However, having a hero bring bewitched into involuntarily changing sides would make for a great escalation of stakes going forward (and actually... Sabine's arc in this show would perfectly fit her falling victim to witchery and her own arroganse, leading Ahsoka to some soul searching and giving Ezra some fresh motivation going forward)

I hate to break it to ya... but it's not gonna be the same. It's almost certainly not gonna be a very faithful adaptation to the original trilogy.

I think it can still be amazing, though!

 

I have enjoyed many of the changes thus far and have no problem with the inclusion of the entire crew of Rebels in the ongoing adaptation of HTTE.

I'm not interested in the rest of the new HTTE if Luke Skywalker's role is diminished, omitted, reduced or slightly removed from Zahn's original intent. When I say it's not the same, that was for Luke's sake - because for me - the story is as much his, as it is Mitthrawdo's. Also, the Rebels Crew could learn a lot from Luke, especially if ghost dad is currently shadowing Ahsoka for the time being. Without Luke being front and center; (recast or, CGI magic - I don't care) I'm satisfied with where this season ended for each of the characters that I've earnestly followed.

 

Considering how the story is taking place across multiple shows and involving numerous characters, old and new, I think it's a pretty safe bet that Luke's role won't be diminished. Chances are it will be different from Zahn's original work, as Filoni & Co. aren't making a 1-to-1 adaption of Heir to the Empire, but I very much imagine Luke's role will remain a big one nonetheless.
