    it depends on the average viewer. do they even know why that ship is particularly important? why would they show it? in the context of the movie it makes sense. BUT: Princess Leia would need to be seen for at least one shot for it to make sense
    .

    I don't think we need to see the Tantive IV at all.

    Jyn receives confirmation that the Rebels have received the plans (maybe we hear Captain Antilles' voice), and then dies knowing the plan was a success. Or something like that.

    that would work for us... but anyone who hasn't seen ANH (or doesn't remember it as well as us) will think that it was a waste of time getting the plans as they are about to be shot down! lol

    Poetic indeed.. love that.

    whilst most of the rebels in the R1 unit will cop an unfortunate ending, it needs to end as a victory.. because it was a victory.
    showing the Tantive IV being shot at or chased by Vader would 'muddy' the ending in my opinion.

    Thanks!! I don't know if for the casual fan it would work but I would be shedding a tear if I see the Tantive IV again onscreen.

    Exactly! Maybe a short-timed victory, but it would be nice to have the movie to end on a high note.

    Combining some of the ideas here what if it's sort of a ESB ending with a pull back from the outer hull of the Tantive and we see C3P0, R2 and Princess Leia through a window in the ship with similar emoting music, and as the camera pulls further out the ship makes the jump and travels out of screen.

    I would love to see a cgi Leia ala Michael Douglas/ Ant-man or Robert Downey Jr/CA Civil war. But I think Disney is staying away from what Lucas did in the prequels in terms of showing the blockade runner at the end of ROTS. I hope I'm wrong...

    The movie needs to end with some feel of victory as the crawl mentions the first Rebel victory. Not to mention Vader's quote of "There'll be no one to stop us this time." Showing the Empire thwarted and the plans successfully stolen will do this. As far as June being killed, I would like it to be left unknown whether she dies or not.
