Finn VS Stormtrooper...

Honestly, we don't even know if that is Finn about to get hit by the Stormtrooper when he goes flying. I was thinking the Stormie was ready to hit Maz and we potentially witnessed Finn's latent Force Sensitivity kick in when the trooper went flying. It would fit well with that picture of Finn and Maz in the rubble of her castle.

My thoughts?

First order stormtroopers weigh no more than helium.

That stormtrooper literally rag dolled after Han shot him.

Never mind wrong franchise...

 

I know I stole that from Yu-Gi-OH, I always enjoyed winding up my opponents by saying that, I honestly hope Finn says something unique to the storrmtrooper before blades starting swinging.

 

I was thinking Finn is not well-versed in sword fighting/saber fighting. The way he wields the lightsaber is so inefficient. It's like he is always going for big hits, too showy (or maybe it's just looks better this way ;P) However the weapon the stormtrooper uses must be his weapon of choice the weapon he is most familiar and trained with. It makes sense that Finn might lose.
Going against Kylo doesn't mean Finn's lightsaber skills are good. In the trailer we can see the fear in Finn's eyes when he goes against Kylo. Who knows how long Kylo has been training with his lightsaber. There is probably only a few alive who can match him.

 

I read that JJ is going for a more aggressive and primitive style when it comes to the lightsaber fights more like the OT, and I actually like what they've shown from him fighting, his strikes carry more weight

 

Well, George had told Mark back while filming Empire that the lightsbers were "heavy" with power and that it took two hands to hold it.

To the far right there's a fire burning and it looks like some kind of creature throwing its arms out and throwing electricity or something (a blue flash)? Anyone else see it? I'm sure it's something standing up but it looks like it's fighting for the stormtrooper's side since it looks like it's doing something to someone off screen to the right. Anyone else seeing the blue flash like it's throwing lightning or something?

That is a interesting spot, I'm not sure.

 

I'm not one for merchandising but if they sold a Han Solo gun or a real blaster (if only) I'd buy that in an instant.

For the record, he is definitely hit by a blaster bolt. And that does look like Finn in the bottom right that he was about to hit.

I like the idea that these troopers have been trained to possibly fight Jedi. I think the FO will be more directly Dark Side affiliated than the Empire was.
