My head continues to spin....While it's nice to have leak chatter again, I cannot reconcile Gleeson being a Solo. A ginger from Han and Leia? If this is truly the case, it's a poor casting choice for a Solo, and my first disappointment with the movie. Han and Leia adopting Luke (or Kenobi's) offspring, while more plausible, would also be a predictable option and very much in line with potentially copying the Game of Thrones - Jon Snow theory = Protecting/harboring family/friends child from danger/truths and raising as ones own. I think the audience could easily sniff that one out.

MVS has played a fair share of predictable bad guy roles in movies - plus he's old as sin. I can't imagine him being the trilogy villain, he doesnt have the mileage and appears frail to me. I see him as an associate in Ep 7 to the main bad guy or as MSW stated, a drunk grandfather figure for Daisy. Definitely not feeling the evil plot point discussed about cyborgs disguising themselves as someone else. Kinda lame - just my opinion.

Ok, we have a rumor that MvS has been sitting around waiting and waiting, and when this lightsaber gets brought to "Kira" he suddenly becomes lucid, and sends off a cryptic message saying, "they found it"

First of all, I don't think MvS is a Sith lord... for some reason, I am having a problem thinking that a Sith lord has been sitting on this desert planet waiting first for "Kira" to be born, then grow up, then someone find this lightsaber that has been sitting in the sand and bring it to her (and nobody else) for this all to kick off...

The Empire had agents everywhere... "if you ever see anything, let us know and you will be rewarded" type agents. If he reports to Sith or remnant type forces at all, I would say it would be more like this...

We need to determine which is more important... is it the lightsaber they are looking for, or is it imperative that "Kira" finds it? If it were the lightsaber itself, then whoever would have had a concerted effort to find it. They would not have left it to chance that it could be randomly found and brought to just anyone... and once it was found, it would have been secured. (sidenote: there is nothing to say that there isn't a concerted effort going on, with troops out scouring the sand, and this this guy finds it and brings it to "Kira" saying, "I wonder if this is what they are looking for"... in which case the agent idea would make sense)

If "Kira" finding it is important, as it will propel her off on some damn fool idealistic crusade, then that also would not be left to chance... they would have orchestrated someone finding it, knowing that person would bring it to her...

(note: we keep assuming it is the lightsaber that is the key... what if it isn't? What if, for instance, a ship gets shot down, and the race is to find this "black box" type thing in the ship... and people are looking for it, not really knowing what it is... and when it gets found, there with it, possibly on the dead pilot or in the wreckage, is the lightsaber, with or without a hand, which makes the people that find it go, "oh crap")

Given these possibilities, I think it would me more likely that it was something recently lost, there is a concerted effort to find it, it does randomly get found by someone who randomly brings it to Kira, and she gets caught up the the saga. If that is the case, MvS is just an agent, most likely a drunken old fool, as has been reported, but one who has been around for a long, long time... it may be that he was a clone trooper, or at the least, in the Clone Wars in some regard, and knows more than anyone expects... but that doesn't stop him from being a drunken old fool who will make the report for the reward, even if he further involves himself in the mix afterwards...

Hopefully these are some logical conclusions...

Leia would have the same ginger genetics that would run in Luke and make it likely to have been his child...

I don't know man. First of all you're assuming that MVS has been sitting on that planet, perhaps at that bar his whole life. That is a BIG assumption. Who's to say he hasn't only been their a few months. Perhaps less. Now think of how well Sidious was able to manage a double life being the Chancellor. You don't think it would be even easier to remain behind the scenes if you were just some nondescript junk merchant on a desert planet? I think it would be the perfect cover for a Sith to travel around the galaxy, looking for Jedi artifacts, without raising too much suspicion don't you?

Also you are presuming Kira was born on that planet and lived there her whole life. Unless I am missing something I don't think that has been confirmed. Is it not possible she was say, an apprentice to Luke and didn't know what to do when Luke disappeared? In fact I would think her having some already existing light saber training is highly likely and congruent with what we have heard about her possibly being one of the figures in the light saber dual with the person in front of the falcon in that art work. So I don't think she has been stuck on the planet her whole life like Luke. I think she is there for a reason, possibly to find his saber, or possibly just to hide and be in seclusion like her master Luke is.

That would readily explain why MVS IF he is a Sith lord would be on the planet monitoring Kira. He is aware of her force talents and want's to see if she will eventually find the saber and go seeking Luke.

I'll just add that if you take what Harry Knowles said about the baddy being "worse than pazuzu" (the demon from the exorcist, oh and wouldn't you know it! A certain someone was in that movie) and if there is any truth to the rumour of a possible working title being "an ancient fear." It would imply the baddy is some super powerful Sith who is very old. This gels with a man like MVS's supposed character being old, and needing cybernetic upgrades.(Possibly to live and stay alive)

Honestly though, I'll just hypothesize and say that if you are right and MVS's character is just some random drunk guy/ info peddler for the empire, besides seriously wasting his skills that still leaves unanswered as to who or what is the main badguy (and who plays them). What actor is there that would make sense to play a character who is powerful enough to be a serious threat to Luke or perhaps even lure him to the darkside. A feat I remind you Darth Ma'frikkin Vader and Palpatine failed to do. Just by process of elimination who else is there?

Be leery of putting to much faith into "lucas talked about doing this" in some other story. Writers go through this process. Its part of figuring out who a character is. He did not, mostly because Luke would not do that. This story is 30 years later, and I've no doubt that 30 years of war has made Luke and probably Han darker characters. They will be older, more reflective and missing those who are gone. Characters might be confused as to if Luke is good or evil, but Luke will not actually be evil.

A lot of ideas come about in the writing process and are tossed aside because they don't work.

So your argument for why he won't play a bad guy role is because he is good at them and does them lots? Huh? As for him being frail I suggest you look at photos of Christopher Lee from the time he played Count Dooku he was very frail as well. (Also shocker!: That wasn't him actually fighting with the light saber against Yoda.) Movie magic is a wonderful thing and can make anything the director wants happen.

I like the drunk guy routine but I also think he will be the Sith Lord who will be killed by his apprentice near the end of the film. The double life thing that Palpatine and his master Plagueis pulled off so nicely in the prequels and the Darth Plagueis novel so Max Von Sydow could easily do it as well.

Any chance the desert planet they are all on being Bespin? I forget what Bespins surface was like other than it was a huge gas mine(?) and if what we did know is canon anymore. Would make sense to rumours of leftover Imperial presence as well as "base" for jedi/sith looking for the greatest lightsaber in history that fell from Cloud City....

    Nope, that's a fair point... let's contrast...

    a) powerful Sith lord who becomes a senator, brings about the situation causing himself to become chancellor, forces the situation to become emperor, rules the galaxy...

    b) Fred Sanford

ok... moving along to your second point

So its your contention that Daisy was a student of Luke, learned some of the power of the Force, wakes up and finds one day he is missing, and thinks the best course of action will be to turn into a scavenger living in the desert until he comes back one day?

Moving on to your third point...

So you think MvS is a powerful Sith junk dealer who wants to sit on a desert planet on the off chance that Kira one day might do something...

moving on to your fourth point...

Because the worst threat to the galaxy, the most badass mutha you can imagine, is a beaten old cyborg content to sit in the desert watching a girl to see if she ever does anything with her life? I agree, this scares me much more than the Exorcist...

    final point...

The Sith, as I have said before... a force, which if to return from Unknown Space in force, with a mission and with a vengeance, would not only scare the hell out of Luke, but any sane and rational being... it might cause old enemies to unite, and turn the landscape of the galaxy into a scarred battleground

The Galactic Empire's territory at its peak consisted of some one and a half million member and conquered worlds, as well as sixty-nine million colonies, protectorates and puppet states spread throughout the entire galaxy, stretching from the borders of the Deep Core to at least Wild Space.

Millions of worlds to explore, each full of intrigue and danger, and everyone wants to stay on the same few planets with the same old baddies...

    Only Spéculations ;)

MVS is a Space Pirate who knows everything about what happened in the OT and th PT. He serves the following purposes:

    - To explain to the new generation of Star Wars fans (that never seen the previous episodes but encourage them to Stream them) what happened.

    - Exposition to Daisy's character, and like Biggs served in a deleted scene from ANH and Obi Wan... Propulses her to go on an adventure. Kira is no different from Luke. But this time, instead of an hologram from the princess.... it's a message from Luke Skywalker, more cryptic, but it is reminiscent of Jurassic Park... Like if they found that Dinosaurs were still alive. There is a Jedi alive, and is in trouble. Kira wants to find a meaning to her life, Boyega wants to redeem himself... Jump to highspeed!

What is mystical about the journey is that both Kira and Darth Bizarro (Driver) find Luke. The Force is strong in both of them... One knows it from a long time... the other..... the other.... the other.... well... will discover it in time.

    Again here is my speculation

When we first meet MvS he will appear to be nothing more then an old spacer. But later, perhaps through this rumored flashback? We will learn that he not only caused Ridley to go chasing after Luke, but he was once the master of Adam Driver as well. MvS is the Ancient Fear but he will not be revealed as such until the climax, perhaps in this rumored cave scene?

    Only speculations my friend.

    I only deduct.

One pivotal scene will be the encounter of Kira/Boyega and MVS. Will Mirror the "I want to be a Jedi like my father" from ANH. Though. this time, it's a couple. Boyega wants to redeem what he has done. Kira... well... she, like Luke, starts to realise she was meant for greater things.

Again... here is my response... I don't think the Ancient Fear is going to be doing time in a junkyard... Palpatine hid in disguise, but he hid in plain site as a powerful person doing what he was doing... what he hid wasn't himself, it was the full scope of what he, himself, was doing... and enjoyed the comforts that power brought...

I think it will go down more or less as has been reported... I think someone is gonna come in with a package for Kira, MvS will see it, revelation...

Nahhhh, she won't be LURED. She is a Force sensitive being, heir to Leia Organa. She goes freemind on her adventure. She will face trial, but not from the influence of MVS character. She will face it from THE CAVE, the one "created" by Luke Skywalker, not much different from the one Yoda created for Luke... Well.. I see a clear parallel between Yoda and Luke. They had the same goal, dealing with the absolute.

While my theory stands on shakier ground now, I believe that MvS was overthrown by Driver and only upon discovering the lightsaber does it return to him what he is. I know amnesia is a weak plot device, but it keeps my theory together by a thread

Rough Monday?. I am saying it would be 'uninspired' if he were to play yet another character who plays the good guy at first, then turns out to be bad in the end. I want my twist to be unseen if possible. As far as Christopher Lee goes, he is a fine actor and when he was speaking as Dooku.... the special effect Jedi battle(s) with his stunt double jumping around really were cringe worthy. You can't tell at all that it wasn't Lee.......righhhtt.

If you are happy with the next movie looking like the prequels then I guess you can ignore my statements and hope it goes your way. I am just hoping for a little more originality to the villain with a look and feel like the OT.

I would not look for an apprentice yet in Episode VII. Rebirth of Evil, yes... how it happens... not the rule of two... That would be the plot point of Episode VIII and IX.

That would make sense... if Kira were Leia's child... which while I don't think a Sith lord would be doing time in a junkyard, I don't think Organa-Solo-Skywalker will be a scavenger...

It would also work if Yoda made the cave, which he didn't... he lived near it, and let Luke go into it... so I can't see Luke making a cave either...

Wasn't the whole point that MvS was from the PT? If he was, how does Driver (barely 30, born after RoTJ) be the cause of his downfall...

This is the biggest flaw in my theory. Driver is young enough that he had to have recently overthrown MvS, but it had to have happened long enough ago that MvS would be someone Ridley would know to go to. My theory has other flaws besides that major one, but I haven't really found another I like well enough to replace it yet
