I think it is all part of the awakening. before touching the light saber, everything she does is on instinct and reflexes.. her natural way with technology and piloting skills are inate to her latent force user powers, so it is more like a muscle she knows how to use without calling it "force". Anakin and Luke where the same: amazing pilots, good shooters , very good mechanics etc.. then you have the beginning of awakening, after the force vision, and things start to unfold more.. she feels the call of the force even more, Maz basically telling her: hey.. YOU can use the force.. Luke at the beginning of ESB use the force to call out his light saber, closing his eyes etc.. but all we saw him doing prior to that is saber training.. I think force users start to understand what they can do the more they listen to the force.. Lightsaber combat on another hand I agree it is another thing: force users can use the force to get stronger, have better reflexes, but.. combat moves? yeaah it requires training, and control is also part of the training but it will come with next episode I guess

    I've got 2 theories.

    1. In the book it goes into detail of how she's exploring her newfound Force powers. When she feels Kylo reach into her mind, & she pushes back, she unlocks something. She tries to do what Kylo did to her, on the Stormtrooper. That's the basis for it as they want us to think, I believe.

    2. We all now know, if we perked up our ears while watching TFA, that Obi-Wan Kenobi speaks to Rey. "Rey... These are your final steps." I have no reason to believe this is the first time Kenobi spoke to her. (I actually have many theories, mostly revolving around believing that Obi-Wan Kenobi has been watching her & guiding her her whole life.) I think it makes perfect sense that Kenobi could guide or influence her to use the Force.

Do we know how old she was when left on Jakku? 3, 5, 7, teen?

A lot of force training can be had, then put to sleep by a Force mind trick ability in 3 to 10 years (or however long it was).

Only to be awakened in TFA. haha see there? ;)

TFA was about Rey ability to harness the force. She clearly is strong with the force. Yoda said that the Jedi's strength flow from the force, through the force you see the future the past. The force is everywhere. the SW saga has change alot of views and like all of us we have our own views. I see it as history or legends as Finn/Rey say. stories of the past that they believed in. So with Rey's "awakening" the saga is moving towards using the force as it being an entity. Using the force power with "Jedi relics"(lightsabers), visions and able to hear(but not communicate) voices(Yoda. Obi won.) they took bits and pieces from all the films and took a good saying from Yoda to establish an open story in TFA. thats what I think about force skills awareness.

"For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.” -Yoda-

May the force be with you always...
