    Here's an idea for VIII....

Luke is dead (starved to death? Died of a lonely broken heart like his mother did? Or something else...?) and has been since The Force Awoke. Thats why the Force woke up, because The Force needs a new light-side protagonist to rebalance the Force once again. (Sigh!)

The Luke we saw on Ahch-To is actually the dead Force Ghost of Luke (he's learnt how to stop glowing and being transparent?!). Rey is actually now the last Jedi in training. Once Luke's trained her, he vanishes never to be seen again and then Mark Hamill can have a happy career where he never has to play a bearded space wizard ever again and continue doing silly voices uninterrupted for a living.

    ;)

Agreed. Ms. Kennedy and Disney will not allow the information to be leaked this carelessly. There are many definitions of the word "last" and nothing RJ said will be false even if Luke doesn't turn out to be the "final" Jedi. According to the Journal of the Whills, "the Force binds us all from a certain point of view". We are all being played to talk up the release of SW Episode VIII and I for one am all right with this because Disney, love them or hate them, has brought in some incredibly talented people so far to develop the next generation of stories.

I suspect that we will all have to continue reading the new canon books and comparing notes in preparation for the next story.

It is true . . . from a certain point of view,

    Pong Solo

In Spectre, M returns from the grave in a video message to Bond where she tells him about this lead to an organisation that appear to have been behind everything. Bond then follows this lead and comes up against Spectre and the most famous of Bond villains - Blofeld. It's a bit of a ret-con the way they did it - suddenly having M in this video that she made in case of her death that enables the writers to make it that Spectre have been behind everything Craig's Bond has faced.

I bring this up because I am wondering if this is what happens with Yoda. Has he returned from the grave to tell Luke about something he learned about before his death - Snoke? Is it Yoda that told Luke to find the First Jedi Temple or indeed a person that would lead Luke to learning about Snoke and this new threat that goes beyond the Sith?

I hope it's a voice cameo like Obi-Wan in the hut in ESB. That would be an appropriate callback and avoid the pitfalls of an actual appearance by Yoda.

I've never liked CGI Yoda, and TPM puppet was awful. I know Oz would only be doing the voice regardless, but if they could retrieve either the ESB or ROTJ puppet out of archives or the Smithsonian or wherever they are and use those if they are showing a FG Yoda. I don't think Yoda should be clearly seen if they are doing a flashback. I frankly don't think the movie needs to show a flashback that includes Yoda.

TLJ has so much it needs to include, any substantial or even cameo appearance by Yoda isn't necessary.

TLJ & EIX need to keep the fan service to a bare minimum. Yoda is a great character and Oz is an absolute film legend. Let's move on, though.

I'm looking forward to TLJ and there are definitely tons of good ways RJ could incorporate Yoda/Oz in the film that I can't think of right now, so I'm fully prepared to eat crow.

If they do a puppet, I know we're in good hands. Neal Scanlan's team is the best. Just compare the ROTS Chewie to the TFA Chewie. In fact, hope we get a new Jabba in the Han movie and hope the rumors of a Snoke puppet are true too.

I heard the archive puppets have been in really bad condition since the 90s...I think it would be fan service to have him only as a voice since it would be a callback to ESB.

i THINK the difference there is that one is younger than the other and one is also a promotional shot compared to Chewie's golden locks blowing in the wind like a shampoo commerical :p

We know that Yoda, Ben, and even Anakin manifest as Force ghosts. Why wouldn't Yoda reappear vice just a voiceover? While on Ach To, Luke could be talking to Yoda regularly. . .

If Yoda's Force ghost is gone, then the canon writing will have to explain how the disappearance happened and that explanation will need to be very good.

Let's give the writer's a chance and not be too stubborn in our prejudices regarding TLJ, so far I think the Disney team is doing well.

Ben let his voice be heard then later appeared as a FG. No retcon would be needed.

As I said in my post, they could very prove me wrong and I'll be happy to admit it, but why not branch out rather then get tangled in the roots? (That metaphor choice wasn't accidental).

I just feel like Yoda has had his time, and they've used up they're chances to show him in a convincing way since ROTJ and always failed (in live action).

I haven't read any canon with details on Luke that falls between "Shattered Empire" and TFA. It will be Luke that is visited by Ben or Yoda and likely during moments of solitude.

Now, perhaps Maz will fill in some of the blanks since she is older than Yoda but this still doesn't account for the disappearance of Yoda. Maybe it will be holocron teaching from Jedi Masters to include Yoda. . .

I'll be very interested in seeing what her "Hunger Games in space" look entails, because if that is what this is referring to, then we're in for something visually unique.

Is she a Resistance leader or Leia's political rival from Bloodline?

There has been so little info about Dern and Del Toro. Other than Luke, they're the characters I'm most interested in finding out about.

They don't say. It sounds like she will be affiliated with the New Republic, though.
