    Rian came up with the story for TLJ, he's not the type of director to do remakes/rehashes, yet JJ is, this was the mistake of bringing JJ into directing the first saga film in the trilogy. Rian keeps telling us his film is not a remake of ESB and I believe him and genuinely has been getting angry that fans keep asking him that. There's already more info out there to suggest it'll be a completely new type of Star Wars film than a rehash.

    There will always be similarities since it is the 2nd film in the trilogy.

    Disagree 100000000% that JJ was the wrong choice.

    He was the perfect choice. Star Wars needed an image make over. It needed to remind fans and, most importantly, the general audience; that it was Star Wars. It wasn't the prequels which are not nearly as beloved as the original trilogy is. You want to make 2 billion dollars? You cover as many of your bases as possible with a guy like JJ. He hits all the right nostalgia notes. He brings in enough new characters and places that get everyone interested in it.

    Star Wars needed a director who could reboot the franchise. That seems to be what JJ does best. Outside of Spielberg himself, there's probably no better option right now based on skill sets.

    Mistake? The fastest to gross 1 billion dollars. Total mistake...TFA may be similar but it isn't the rehash/remake some make it out to be.

    Well, I'm gonna add more :p

    JJ's work on TFA allows a guy like Rian to come in and just go haywire with basically whatever he wants and give us a red velvet cheesecake lookin planet and mother porgin' porgs.

    I'm not even saying people have to like JJ's style or his movies...but his broad mass appeal is what will, in the long run, allow Star Wars to be expanded in many different directions and beyond where we likely ever thought it would go in cinemas.

    This is where Marvel really did some good stuff early on.
    They got rock solid directors who could make the movies they needed made.
    Joe Johnston (OG Star Wars guy)
    Jon Favreau
    Kenneth Branagh.
    Joss Whedon.

    They stacked the deck with guys who know how to appeal to everyone so they could take chances with the Russos, Edgar Wright*, Scott Derrickson, James Gunn, Shane Black,Ryan Coogler, Taika Waititi....Those original guys got you hooked on the characters so you were more willing to go down more rabbit holes with them to weird places.

    That was JJ's ultimate contribution to Star Wars. He gave us the chance to dig deeper, not just as a niche fan base...but as a mass appeal monstrosity the world has never seen....

    I feel like someone else should have written the movie, though. Directing is more where his strengths lie, not writing screenplays.
    What I'm more interested in is the absence of anything suggesting that Anakin killed Snips...

    I think it's moreso that he was more of a team player and would listen better and get the job done due to his experience within the time crunch that they had

    Well to be fair Lawrence Kasdan helped write it, so maybe he should've wrote it by himself;meaning Lawrence, but only gripe I have really is the scenes move to fast. In and out without getting to know much setup. The best setup was Rey.
