Same here... though I'm wondering why they re-created that shot? Or is it the same shot... only with clouds moving to allow the sunlight move in?

    That shot was gorgeous though!

    Which reshoots would those be?

The only times they've been filming on Skellig the was 28-30 July 2014 for TFA, and 15-17 September 2015 for Episode VIII.

It's definitely a new shot altogether - the weather's a lot clearer and brighter in the new shot than the one in The Force Awakens, and as far as we know, Mark Hamill only spent one day on Skellig Michael as far as TFA is concerned.

I think they might have actually "cheated" by filming part of it on the Irish mainland - I feel like the slope that Rey is standing on is a bit different than the one in TFA. That might just be the angle, though.

I'm just confused as to why Rey is standing like that then... is Rey's training on Ach-to completely comprised of holding Luke's saber with her arm extended?

I was thinking it could have been the same moment, as when the falcon is flying up to skellig it does appear to be a sunny day with some clouds.

Though I'm also thinking this was just a publicity shot... not something we'll see in the movie?

My opinion is that the Skellige scene is a recreation of the last shot. The lighting is obviously different (brighter/sunshine) and the weather seems better than last July.Either the scene was shot as one of the many additional shots that lately will be cut in the montage room or its was filmed on purpose just for the fans.Who knows...we have less than 2 years to find out...

Lucasfilm confirmed it was for Episode VIII months ago. They kind of had to when people found that Rian Johnson was involved.

I don't think they would spend the time, effort and money to shoot at Skellig for a publicity shot.

Well I mean they were already there... what's the harm in just being like "Hey guys can you do what you did at the end of 7?"

If it was filmed to be included in 8 (which I HIGHLY doubt at this point) what would be the point of that scene? We already saw it in 7, and I'm sure Star Wars will continue with the tradition of lapses of time between films. Rey & Luke will look very different in 8 I'd imagine after a few years.

I think what's going to happen is that we're going to see how the events of The Force Awakens played out from Luke's perspective before jumping into whatever time-skip will end up happening (remember, The Empire Strikes Back had a subtly-implemented timeskip between the escape of the Millennium Falcon crew - along with their time on Bespin - and Luke's weeks of training on Dagobah). I'd imagine there'd be insight on what the "Awakening" actually is, and we'd see him create the tombstone for Han that he's seen standing by at the end of the movie.

I wouldn't doubt misdirection. There's a chance that the footage we saw in the teaser is alternate angles from TFA, not from Episode VIII.

Of course I have been known to be wrong... From time to time...

The lighting looks there is a lot more sunlight coming through the sky. The same as when the video shows Rian Johnson there on the island. They could color grade it differently later on.

The Death Stars used Kyber crystals in an array to fire their beams. There's Clone Wars and Rebels episodes about Kyber crystal mining and shipments.

Yup...it's been stated multiple times in the past that the Death Star had kyber crystals and the Finalized does as well but I'm not sure about SKB .
