SPECULATION How much do you want revealed in the trailer? How much is too much?

the tfa trailer should be as spoiler free as this one. i mean it gave away absolutely no info about the ending or any scenes

I'd like to get to know the new characters just a tad more as well as hear a little bit of what the "conflict" is. No big, "spoilery" information or hinting of any of the twists, just the basic "this is the problem" and some insight into character personality.

Good example.actually some would say the trailer is better then the movie, but it is actually a good sci fi movie that got ruinied in the editing room, some scenes on the blueray made much more sense.

    another good example is:

negative was the genesys trailer with a mayor plot twist.

My favourite trailer of the year, also Mad Max.It's one I saw in the theatre and it blew my socks off. I think it is the perfect example with just enough to excite but doesn't give much away.

    Snoke agree

    But no LUKE?

Man, I have been waiting 33 years and since I was 11 years old to see LUKE SKYWALKER, JEDI KNIGHT on the Screen. I know it's a couple of months before release and yes I can wait but man...... It would be nice to just get a glimpse of "the" JEDI KNIGHT

For me personally, I want to hear some new evil bad guy audio whether it be Snoke or Kylo Ren then maybe some Captain Phasma just enough to make me go "Wow, this is really dark and intense... OMG!!!!" Then while that goes on, overlay it with the new heroes looking semi-scared to show the true nature of the evil First Order with evil dark themes from John Williams, then immediately cut to black and no sound, then jump cut with a major chord hit and the Falcon comes screaming into frame and we see several quick jump cuts of Chewie and Han flying the Falcon, explosions in the battle with Finn fleeing from the First Order, Rey kicking ass with her staff, Leia yelling orders on a command ship to attack, and Poe Dameron with Black Squadron swooping in for an attack with lazer blasts flying everywhere (Not in any particular order) and this section will be overlayed with Star Wars epic heroic themes then cut to the title "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" with it fading backwards with that epic timpani part (DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum DUM dum ROLLLLLLLLLLLL DUM!!!) then jump cut to "In Theaters Worldwide December 18"

No shots of Luke, No shots of Snoke, and definitely no major scenes of anything that will massively kill the plot. No original score music from John Williams either. Save that for the film!!!!

And that's my list! Tell me what you think about it below.

This is one of my favorite movie trailer. Now some may have not liked the movie too much (I personally loved it) but this has to be one of the best trailers I've ever seen. It doesn't give away too much of the plot but just enough that we get an idea of what to expect. Though the movie really didn't, the trailer does capture some of the magic that made the comic great. If JJ and friends can pull off a trailer much like this I would watch it a million times.

Give us just a bit of the plot, many cool shots of the characters and props (much like the Falcon), and some of that Star Wars music that everyone loves.

It doesn't have to be a dark as this though. I was just using The Watchmen trailer as an example of a good movie trailer. It has just the right amount of everything IMO.

I'm thinking of maybe a small shot of a hooded figure. No one really knows who it is but it would be implied that its Luke.

You mean... "In theaters worldwide December 16, 17 and 18"
(They'll have to have regional specific cuts with the proper date)

At that rate you might as well even throw in December 14 for the "Hollywood Premiere" too. I really have no idea how they are going to post that. Too many dates and it is going to be too clumped together on one picture at the same time. Star Jedi Font size 24 or less... that should do it!

They'll probably just do what they usually do... regional cuts of the trailer with the appropriate date for where the trailer is showing. Doesn't really work in the online release, but hey!

Exactly, so would it not mean more to see him in the actual film? I feel that would be more memorable :)

Yes, I hope they want Luke to remain a mystery just like the rest of us. If he pops up in the trailer, oh well.

That's pretty spoilery... I don't remember that trailer and wonder if it was the second "full trailer." The teaser for that film had almost zero footage in it.

Now that I've thought about it a little, that trailer still leaves a lot to be revealed. There's no mention of Vulcan, Spock Prime, and Pike isn't named. If you were a casual or fringe Trek fan, you could still enjoy most of the twists and turns of that movie after that trailer.

I think the TFA trailer won't be as spoilery as what you posted. Thanks for the perspective, though. If TFA trailer reveals as much as that one did, I completely understand why they waited this long to release it.

For the record, I think you have to judge a trailer as "giving away too much" from the view of the public in general. That lightsaber handoff shot from the second teaser means much more to us that have been living on rumors than to others.

I have two friends who are big SW fans but don't go to sites like this. I mentioned the TFA to them at a BBQ in August and they both immediately expressed concern about too much CGI instead of practical effects. I'm not kidding. This trailer may give away a lot to people like us but 90% of people won't get most of what is revealed, so it might end up being pretty spoilery by our standards.

my wish list more establishing shots of fin rey & kylo ren

a slight ley longer shot of han on the MF

r2dr & c3po (not in the same scene)

fin with lightsaber (couple of extra seconds added to the exiting shot)

rey with staff defending herself from other scavengers (to give a hint that she can look after her self)

some more scenes of x wings ( maybe on the approach run to the plant in trailer 1 & 2)

Ok that was too much, if TFA is in the same level of the one he did for Star Trek i'm skipping, sadly i can't know how much he show, before we see the movie

It's mostly in hindsight though... without having seen the movie, it doesn't give too much away...
except that time travel has been used as a means of rebooting, and a planet blows up.
