SPECULATION How much screentime will Captain Phasma ( "Captain Merchandise" !) get in Episode VIII?

it stands to reason that Captain Merchandise needs to make it to the end so that she can continue merchandising well into ix, no? hahaha

but seriously, i'd like to see them give her a plot point or two.

 

Are you asking how much screen time she will get, or how deep into the movie she will survive? Those are very different question. Kylo Ren made it all the way through TFA but he probably had 15-20 minutes of screen time.

 

Would the film really have been better if she was in it more? Apparently that was the idea, and her scenes were cut down in editing, independent of the early merchandising campaign. JJ presumably thought that her scenes weren't adding to the story. She will be a Boba-Fett like figure, showing up here and there, but not dominating the story.

 

I think we will actually get to see her do something badass this time around seeing as how that's one of the chief fan complaints leveled at TFA. As for screen time though, I'd say it wont be much, but enough to actually give her something to do this time around. I say 10 to 15 minutes tops. I also bet on her surviving through the film as well.

We all know it is confirmed that her character will return but where did Phasma even go? I really thought she was killed offscreen. They talked about the trash compactor and that's it.

I don't get the captain Phasma hype but she is JJ Abrams favorite TFA character and according to the VD
"Phasma's armor is coated with chromium obtained from a yacht that Emperor Palpatine owned while living on Naboo"

Now that's something so I guess we will get to see her doing something badass in Episode VIII.

By the way I voted "won't make past the 90 minutes".

 

I said 30 minutes but I took it as meaning she'll appear in the film for 30 minutes. Not that she'd only last 30 minutes.

as it stands, if they did kill her off... would anyone notice? lol

much like a lot of the other characters in the trilogy.. i see Phasma going one of 2 ways:-

• she commits some brutal acts during ep8, and goes after Finn for defecting.
• she goes after Finn.. and defects. programmed from birth, it should not be possible to reject the FO.. she must be a confuzzled captain who doubts everything she thought she knew.

i suspect the former.

she will have more to do in ep8. it's one of the few things i'm confident about.
Boba Fett wasn't even in ANH (ok.. he was added to the special edition) and he became a fan favourite from what we saw in V & VI.

 

I've thought about this character a bit. I admire the thought that went into the design and the final result. It was one of the first glimpses I got of The Force Awakens, and I thought there was very good reason they were introducing this character so early and openly.

When I saw the movie, and I sensed the character was underutilized, scenes were cut, but perhaps necessarily so, given how much other subject matter and other characters there were to develop in the limited time available.

I was not left expecting to hear the character had any role in VIII, given it seemed Phasma might have down with the base. Interestingly enough, I wonder if fan reaction helped "resurrect" her character, bringing it back like Boba Fett from the Sarlacc Pit.

If the character can be given a purpose, a real role, and is not brought back simply for screen candy, then this could be a positive development for Episode VIII. In a budget of approximately 150 minutes, every single second counts in such an involved saga like this.

So, if Captain Phasma does survive Episode VIII, I wonder if she could play a reversal role (aside Finn) helping to bring about the eventual awareness and liberation of the First Order Stormtroopers (perhaps in Episode IX), primarily because her involvement of training/conditioning Stormtroopers as well of her early awareness of Finn's nonconformity of before the First Order raid on Jakku (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Phasma).

Don't know how long we will see her on screen but maybe she will fill out the whole screen, because of a successful treatment in the trash compactor where Finn and Han put her in TFA ;-).

 

I hope as little screen time as possible. Seriously. I liked all the characters but cannot understand people's fascination with captain Phasma. The only on screen character with a bad performance, bad line delivery and redundant function to the story. I hope Finn chokes her to death in the first act of episode VIII

 

This. All of this. 1000 times this. Get Phasma out of here.


This guy was more impressive and more popular and he was only in TFA for less than 5 minutes.

 

This has been my suspicion as well of late. I just can't see her retaining her rank and role after the blunder she had on Starkiller Base - to remain as just an incredibly shiny stormtrooper throughout the trilogy would be a complete waste and would feel like a bit of a stretch considering the hand she played in destroying the FO's base of operations in their moment of (near) triumph.

If not a defector... she could turn to a bounty hunter role out of spite and perhaps follow up on a bounty placed on Finn (thus giving her a clear plotline for an entire movie's worth and earning Finn a nice, contrasting antagonist - Finn left the First Order because he chose to and saw it as the best decision of his life; Phasma was forced out because of her failure and regarded it as the biggest mistake of her life).

 

Put this man in a bacta tank and make him hunt the resistance scum!

 

Give him two stun battons this time! Twice the spinning!

Best moment, and Ford's idea apparently. I remember reading somewhere that originally they were meant to have a long choreographed fight, whip vs sword, but Ford was ill at the time, cold or flu, and just suggested that he shot him.

 

Although the argument has been made that that guy should have been Phasma. Would have made more sense than Finn battling some completely unknown Storm Trooper, even if that Storm Trooper is awesome.

 

True, but then I think the purpose of that fight was to demonstrate the power of the Chewie's bow caster and we can't have Phasma being blown away. Anyway, I think people would have preferred Phasma to be in that fight to fit in with their notions of a Finn-Phasma rivalry that just wasn't there in TFA.
