I like Snake I don't see him as just 'there for Kyle's development' but I have been proposing that Ren will have a major saber tantrum all over Snake.

I agree with @FN-3263827, if Snoke dies mid-way through the trilogy, Hux should kill him.
There is no better alternative, he's the second in command for a reason. And that reason is to usurp the First in command.

Having said that, I still don't think Snoke should die this early on. If Snoke was so involved in the creation of the First Order. If he was so instrumental with the downfall of the New Republic. I don't think he should be relegated to being a mere plot device for another character.

And like @Rieekan said, we know more about Snoke than we did the Emperor in the first episode of the trilogy. Snoke might have an even more prominent role than the Emperor in future episodes.

But unfortunately, Snoke got a bad reception from the audience, which could potentially affect what happens to the character if his direction isn't already set in stone.

    1) First, this is a "trilogy" of feature films, so these main characters like it or not will have story arcs/plots. Surprises or unexpected twists seem unlikely. Except for maybe a big cliff-hanger/shocker like the 3rd act of TESB.
    2) Snoke, like several ST lead characters, is under-developed & maybe insignificant overall but I agree with him being more revelant to the plot-story of Luke's return(redemption). I've read a few bits/chatter online saying that maybe Ren & actor Benecio Del Toro's "Senator" part may plot against Snoke, leading to his demise. Then Kylo Ren will double cross Del Toro's villan allowing him to control The First Order in EP9.
    3) Snoke is a half #%* effort of a bad guy name. It became the subject of ridicule the second it came out in 2015. JJA & Kasdan could have made a better effort. I'd be curious to see the names or evil characters, writer David Arnst(check spelling) used in his screenplay.

Even if Snoke turn out to be Plaguise and meet his death at the hands of his apprentice; Kylo Ren. That's still a great move in my book.
Because it will pave the way for Rey to be his new apprentice. Besides, Snoke's character design doesn't impress me a bit. He should be more menacing and wiser.

He looks like a CG cartoon character in The Force Awakens.

The fact that he's a hologram which adds another layer of abstraction doesn't help.

Yeah the CG of Snoke isn't that good, but maybe it's because of the hologram.
Or it's because his design was rushed, didn't JJ tell that Snoke's final design was decided really late in the post-production process?
Now they exactly know how he looks and so they can/will improve the CG in EP8.

I'm curious how he looks in "real life" though.

@Ninjabeans very good point here. Agreed!!!!

    BTW

Does anyone read Hardcase Snoke Theory? I also liked that.

"I thought the exposition on the Sith in this issue was pretty solid. Anyone else get really sweaty when Thanoth referenced the Eternal Empire? I think there's more going on with that reference than meets the eye and might eventually even tie in to the Sequel trilogy. I have mused for some time that Snoke may be the canon version of the Immortal Emperor, Lord Valkorion, ruler of the Eternal Empire in the Old Republic continuity in legends. Valkorion formed a new Force-user order called the Knights of Zakuul to rise above the light and dark sides of the Force. The Knights of Zakuul were the enforcers of the Eternal Empire and could possibly be represented in the canon by the Knights of Ren." (copy/pasted from HardCase post on "Darth Vader #20 Review)

I hope his backstoryis intertwined with Luke's somehow so he can have a nemesis in this trilogy. Phasma v Finn, Kylo Ren v Rey and Snoke v Luke. They're the fights I hope we get at some point!

Snoke is a new character and I read (somewhere) last year that he was actually aware of the former Empire and the Sith, but did not share their ideals, but instead has his own agenda. Now that being said, Snoke is the reason that Kylo Ren...is Kylo Ren. Snoke is thus far the "Wizard of Oz" as he is the villian behind the curtain that is the driving force behind Kylos craziness and as we all know, is using Kylo as a tool....and Kylo will come to finally believe it and it will infuriate him. Kylo already knows in the back of his mind that he's being used, but just can't bring himself to believe it, and again is going to be infuriated, humiliated, and may end up on his own deserted island in the end as he lives with his utter failures for the rest of his life.

Snoke's presence will remain through Ep. IX, and hell, maybe into the next trilogy, but he will meet his fate at the hands of either Kylo, Rey, or Luke...in that order of likelihood, in my opinion.

Even if Supreme Leader Snoke dies in VIII his presence could still be felt through the entirety of IX.

    Would it be really boring?
Maybe Snoke isn't the real threat our heroes have to defeat in the final showdown. It could be anyone. Wouldn't it be awesome if Kylo Ren or even a still unknown character is the final boss? It could be an awesome twist.

This is the best way to do it. JJ explained once that Kylo Ren is the "Anti-Luke Sykwalker", thus Kylo should go full dark side. But first he has to sweep Snoke out of the way because there can only be one real lord of the darkness.

There's still a lot I would like to know about the Supreme Leader first. Who he is, what he specializes within the force, how he's been around for so long, what is his relationship to the sith (if any), how he lured Kylo Ren to his side, where was he hiding and watching all this time, and of course what his endgame is. I would prefer Snoke go down in Episode IX, have Kylo Ren take him out and take over as Supreme Leader. I think Hux and Kylo will commune together well and create an unstoppable force in the trilogy that will follow. Taking the First Order (or whatever these unkown regions may hide) to the upmost height of it's power, making the Empire truly obsolete. I would suspect Finn, Poe, Leia, or sadly enough Luke eat it at the end as well. It had better be done damn well though and against incredibly impossible odds. It would be cool to see whomever survives helps, start the new Jedi Order with Rey and that could be one side of the new upcoming trilogy. The other side could be Kylo venturing further into the darkness and taking up his mantle as a true Sith Lord. Possibly Plagueis helps him along the way???

Ultimate battle to end the trilogy between:

Jedi Master Rey & (insert mystery Padawan/Jedi Kinght) VS Darth Kylo Ren & Darth Plagueis the Wise

The battle to settle everything and come bring a conclusion to the Skywalker Saga?? Possibly??? Who knows right????
I'm getting way off topic and ahead of myself, sorry. I just love to shoot ideas and theories. Also, I love Star Wars.

with Snoke out of the way, these two are more likely going to immediately try to kill each other.

of which i still approve. hahaha

FUNN, why do you insist on pissing me off? :D

I personally think General Hux does have reservations about the Supreme Leader, so yeah- this is likely to happen.

    hahahaha ~ i didn't say they'd succeed! well...not at first anyway.
would you rather Ren made herbed pancakes while Hux mopes around tinkering with speeder bikes? [snert]
