I'm so very tired of this rating system. I love this site to speculate and to read the latest news but this rating system tires me. Every thread I just know there is plenty of stuff people arn't saying (but are thinking) because they are afraid to get negative ratings. People just give everything a positive twist and sugercoat it to get the likes. I know it might be useful to detect spam or offensive posts or whatever but sometimes the things I read are just insane. How can you have a REAL discussion if every argument can be rated by everyone (and the ratings get displayed under your name, that's the bad part). People will never say something that might be controversial while those things might be very good subjects to discuss on a mature level. I know people make posts and in the back of their mind are thinking: 'hmm I think with this post I will get likes.' This phenomenon is not exclusive to this site of course as these kind of ratings are all over the place. However, this contributes to people losing touch to reality. They rather avoid and dodge negativity and darkness rather than to embrace it and then overcome it. Life is not meant to be only about flowers and sunshine but also about darkness and suffering. Let's not pretent the latter does not exist. I'm not vouching for more negativity or suffering ( on this website or whatever but I'm vouching for an environment where everyone can say what he wants, even if it's controversial or if people might dislike what he has to say.

It's the 3000/10/0 ratings people that couldn't so NO to George Lucas while working on the PT. Say yes to everything and agree with everything. To me these kind of opinions hold no value.

My suggestion: keep the rating system but DON'T display it under peoples names next to their post. People are too horny for the green number and that ruins the experience of browsing and commenting on the forum.

Just a couple of ideas to improve this Forums:

In ID Tag of forum users with the Name i guess you should place the location of that user, ie. Darth NRM, Portugal. This will allow an instant recognition and allow a better interaction amoung everybody. (i tried to pull a joke with "How Long Is The Force" but my guess only non Americans will understand it)

I Really think you guys should consider simplify your ratings system, and i'm seeing a lot of others complainig to, besides a complex coment rating system will always be an excuse to conflicts and grudges. Think you'll only need a "Like" to rate a good post, a "Signal" to report if the post is offensive or of bad taste, but if you really wanna it set an "Excellent" for really great posting.

I think I said this in another thread, but a live-chat feature would be cool, sort of FB Chat, incorporating it within the actual forum's home-page, as well as within each thread so we can live chat about specific topics and then general topics on the homepage in relation to our comments since not everyone is online at the same time in order to keep the topics relevant and less generalist negativity. and pop=ups at the bottom or side bar of the window.

Hey, I'm not complaining but I think possibly a live chat room or four for different topics and possibly one for online role playing, I'm sorry before world of Warcraft and Star Wars galaxies, we texted rpg'ed online mostly via AOL chat rooms and via text.

I read through this thread and didn't see anyone mention this, so forgive me if this has already been said, but... is there any chance of having a theme option that is dark text on light background? I'm finding my eyes feeling a lot of strain trying to read the light-on-dark text...

I ran a forum and headed up a LIVE CHAT for the site. However, sadly the live chat was just a headache and created a lot of problems with the server.

Not sure if things have changed recently regarding this but it was PAIN and Suffering for me.

It could be automated and accessible by country, region, and/or interests based on what our profiles say and what parts of the forums we are on...although the entire website's operations would probably need a revamp if that was the case.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but I think it could be nice to have a "Ignore Thread" option that would mark posts on that thread as read, if you are not @'ed, maybe?
That way, if there is a thread that does not interest you, say spoilers threads or reddit based ones or whatever, those would not "clutter" the New Posts...
It would be the opposite of "Watch Thread"...

Not sure how easy this would be to implement, or if anyone else would be interested...

EDIT: They would still be visible in the "All recent posts"

Yes, but when you go to the new posts you would get the ones that you either already follow or maybe not follow but might be interested in.. And not have to parse between the ones you don't care and then mark as read..

    I know, I'm lazy!

Trust me, the Staff and the 1030th are doing the best we can to cut down on redundant threads.

I belive you but what I had in mind was not so much about redundant threads, you would still have to opt-out of each thread...
It's more of an individual filter for threads you don't have an interest on, and would avoid having to "mark all read".. You would read the remaining ones, and if you really wanted, the "ignored" ones would still be in the all recent...

I haven't thought this through, but just in case it hasn't come up before might I suggest an "agree" button?

I see (and start) a lot of posts beginning with "agree 100%" and although I "like" a lot of the pictures, humor and even posts I don't necessarily agree with, it feels wrong to "like" a post that may be sad.

    Please ignore if already mentioned.

Edit: I find myself looking for an 'interesting' button for astute observations...

Hey, can we get a countdown for Rogue One and/or Episode VIII on the main page, like you did for TFA? I liked viewing it there for Episode VII as an easy reference every now and then. Miss having it now.

Love the forums. Thanks for hosting. One question though, I have the required 30 posts before posting new threads, but still says have have insufficient rights. I have some questions I wanted to ask in the collecting forum, but not able to post them. Am I not seeing more requirements? What am I missing?

    Thanks.

I just tested your permissions and I see that you can post new threads. Are you sure you can't? There is a big yellow button on top of the forum and at the bottom. If you continue to have issues please send me s screen capture from one of the forums where you want to post.
