I'm having the same problem, but it's the ratings I'm missing (I haven't tried to start a new thread). Of course, I understand that new systems are always glitchy at first, so I'm in no hurry. Just thought I would let you know.

EDIT: Ah, nevermind. They suddenly appeared. :)

Thanks for the help. I do indeed have the yellow button now. I didn't earlier today, and I appreciate the response. Thanks again for the site!

You're welcome. I guess the system needs some time before it realizes that a member already made 30 posts.

I would be willing to bet that it has something to do with a cookie and/or cache that needs to be refreshed. I would bet that a Ctrl+F5 or logging out and back in would fix the problem. If I remember, I'll let you know a few posts from now.

    EDIT:

As of 30 posts, it doesn't appear to be cookie or login related. Must just be the back-end taking some time to catch up. I'll see how long it takes and report back.

    EDIT 2:

The magic number appears to be 35 Minutes.

We are missing a Jar Jar option in the post ratings section. It would represent asking for a more cohesive sentence, or something like that. I don't know, something silly and Jar Jar related :)

We used to have one. It was titled "Dumb". It sounded too harsh.

"Confusing", perhaps? The image we had (Jar Jar with his numb tongue) would fit this end.

I think that's what "Clouded" is for.

maybe "Clouded" needs a different picture.
i mean, it works with Kylo Ren, but not if you actually like the character ~ hahaha

Maybe Jar Jar could represent something like a post that could be perceived as "silly" (if I'm thinking of the right word) and the chewie one could keep being funny ?

I think we need a Rick McCallum "Dense" rating. Could have several meanings...

I think silly would be a good representation of Jar-Jar but if you guys wanted to go truly multi syllabic superfluous would also be good for Jar-Jar.
    Superfluous:
a : exceeding what is sufficient or necessary : extra
    b : not needed
(I know most probably know what superfluous means, but maybe some of us don't know precisely what it means)

I don't think we actually need a superfluous rating but boy does it fit what most of us think of Jar-Jar. I mean, like, perfectly.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (so what I'm saying is superfluous would be superfluous? Oh gawd)

It could also be called Over The Top.

He could also represent a logical fallacy or more generally speaking a weak argument.

Unwise or Foolish might also fit this. All of the above suggestions are better than "Dumb". Between Unwise or Foolish I would make the argument that Unwise is better as it's not quite as harsh plus a "Wise" exists already and the way Unwise Jar-Jar parallels a Wise Yoda makes sense because they have some things in common, for instance a silly appearance and like when Yoda is sort of pretending to be a brat on ESB (he hits Artoo repeatedly with a stick!) is something you could see Jar-Jar do.

To me, "Clouded" indicates "I have conflicting feelings on this subject" - which is why Kylo Ren is the perfect fit for that.

i think people actually use it to mean "you must've been smoking a doobie to have posted that claptrap".

i know that's what i thought it meant ~ hahaha.

Perhaps we need a "Delusional" or "Laserbrain" rating. Sort of like "Clouded" but more fun.

And we don't have a Han rating.

Also, maybe a "Sad" or "Hurt" or "Too Soon" rating.

As much as this ratings thing is useful and fun, we don't want to increasingly negate the need to type out a response do we? Can't too many ratings just induce laziness in regards to post response, thence reducing discussion ? Sometimes I don't care if it's obvious or whatever, but especially in regards to negative posts I would like to understand the reasoning or thinking behind it. Instead of ratings being a safeguard and fun adjunct, perhaps there could be a danger they could become a too common replacement for real discussion? Just thoughts....

That's certainly the thing about ratings. They are a fun add on, but the point of a discussion is to... discuss! (Isn't that surprising?) For me, I use the ratings for when someone makes a good point, (or funny, or whatever), but I often try to add to the discussion in some way.
And the point about ratings is to express in a simple way what we think of a post. As a moderator, it's part of my job to encourage conversation, and when I or any other mod find someone who is only using the ratings, we encourage them to join the fun and talk about stuff.
So if we do end up adding some more ratings, we should use them for fun but not to kill discussion. If that ends up happening, then we'll simply remove some of the ratings and get things back to normal.
Thanks for your input though! I certainly agree with you.

ok, so i just read through this thread and rated pretty much every post; and look, i'm still contributing!

personally, the ratings are fun and a good way to get a feel of how others feel about any given post. i love the ratings here and i wish other social media platforms would adopt something similar. Facebook is trying to go that way now, but i feel they limited themselves by offering only a few different "responses" to choose from.

as for Jar Jar coming back, i've been wanting this for soooo long!! i like the idea of un-wise or foolish; how about Ridiculous?
