That's very true, but to be fair, he still did just stand by and watch. His compliance and agreement with Alderaan's destruction are arguably almost as bad and therefore still very hard to forgive.

True, especially when Ben saying to Luke and possibly others that Anakin was destroyed by Darth Vader. While Ben means what Yoda said, “your apprentice, gone he is, consumed by Darth Vader.” (ROTS). But most hearing Kenobi s words will picture Vader slayed Anakin in the Jedi Purge.

According to this point of view, would Vader have been still twisted by Palp once Palp is dead?
I mean: would have he recovered a part of himself (the good in him) once his mentor and master (in the way: the master of a slave) is dead? you know, it would be like in some child tales: the victim of a spell sees his fate fly away when the sorcerer who threw it is dead.
In other terms: Vader was the slave of Sidious ; would he have been remained a slave once the Palp is dead.

Dont think he'd be allowed to go free. And dont think itd be safe for him to rebuild the order. Personal opinion though.

Honestly, I would see Vader becoming the next Emperor and negotiating a peace treaty with the New Republic. Also, he would be able to:
    • Institute a range of cultural reforms like the abolition of slavery in the Empire
    • Bring about an end to cronyism in business and politics and replace it with a technocracy
    • Institute new legal reforms
    • Make a conscious effort to reform the Empire's image
I do not see him becoming a Jedi as he may feel guilt about his part in the purge of that religion. But I do see him having a more nuanced view of the light and dark sides of the force. If anything, I see him becoming more morose and isolated as he realises what he as done to his family and the galaxy at large. Apart from a few public appearances, he would be seldom seen. Though Luke remains optimistic, others find it harder to forgive him, least of all Vader himself.

I imagine both Luke and Vader walking together on a wooden pier above a frozen lake beneath an overcast sky with not much being said, just small talk. Well, more of a monologue on Luke's part while Vader remains silent. Leia remains on the bank and for a brief moment Vader turns to see her and stares at her imploringly only to see her silently walk away and disappearing into the morning mist.

Other: Charged and convicted of multiple crimes but before the sentence can be executed, Anakin decides to flee and go into exile.

Interesting. Though the more cynical part of me thinks that this would look more like 'victor's justice' instead of actual justice.

Ok but the Empire is something that must be abolished. I read your previous post and I cannot imagine Vader doing any kind reforms. And with what power? Even with Luke at his side, it would be hard to convince the resistance that Vader now is a good man. If I am a member of the resistance I wouldn't believe that.
In my opinion, Vader could have survived and become Anakin again. Then he would have gone into self exile and in the meantime looking after Luke and Leia while they rebuild the New Republic.

Even after the destruction of the Second Death Star, the Empire still was not inconsiderable in its size and scope. Granted it had become uncoordinated but under Vader's leadership it would once again be a force in the galaxy. It is not the Empire itself that was evil but the Emperor and the culture that he created. Just imagine the way that a good emperor would have utilised the collective resources at his disposal to build a better galaxy rather than for cruel power plays and self aggrandisement.

To say that would be the same as saying the Principality of Zeon is inherently evil because of the actions of a certain Gihren Zabi. Of course, in Gundam, things are never as black and white as things initially appear and both sides are humanised and are shown to have flaws.

The same with Neo-Zeon. At that point, That gives me an idea. Why not have Rey have a similar role as Mineva Lao Zabi with Vader as Char Aznable?

    Sieg Zeon! Sieg Neo-Zeon!

Sorry but I am not a fan of Gundam, so I don't know the comparison. I know that the empire was vast and that is why the new order came after. As we seen in The Mandalorian, there are a lot of warlords who have stormtroopers and try to gain power in the galaxy. That is why the new republic stands for, to avoid a new great empire. I wouldn't believe in a good emperor and I don't know how many people would believe in Vader after all his crimes, even with Luke and Leia on his side. A good emperor would restore the senate and then the republic, before for example go into self exile. People should be able to vote for their representatives.
