SPECULATION Is Chewie going to die in Episode VIII?

and here i was trying to get through my morning without feeling maudlin over the sad state of affairs for the Solos.

I almost believed you before reading the end of this post, Rey needs a protector just like he did for Leia in TESB.

 

I know. I don't want anybody else to die. And agree, he would be like a protector to Rey

 

I know but since we have 2 movies to go, no one is safe anymore, I just hope a character like Han is picked out early for a unexpected demise so I can be relieved the others won't.

 

Han's death had specific factors behind it, both in-universe and behind the scenes. So I don't know that I'd automatically use that as a barometer for what will happen to the other characters.

Him being a protector/surrogate big brother type of figure to Rey could be really fun. Like he decides to look after this girl (that he personally likes) whom Han had started to bond with in his final days or something like that.

 

I really wished they'd given Chewie the MF. He was 1st Officer and Han's partner for decades. Seems kind of strange for it to go to anyone else while he's still around.

 

For all we know, it is his. He's just content to let her pilot the thing (as long as he gets to stay close).

 

My 8 year old would riot.

 

I think everyone would... Wait, cross that. I know I will if they dare do that. Would definitely earn JJ the nickname of JJ Binks, or whomever who tries to do that the equal thereof.

Chewie seems to like Rey, so I'd assume he'll want to stay by her side, and she doesn't seem too troubled by that either. After all, they both know their way around the Falcon, at the very least.

 

God, I hope not. You guys thought me proposing an R-rated star wars was bad; this idea is a true stinker. Arguably the dumbest thing the EU ever did.

Since they've found a younger actor to fill in the action scenes, I see no reason he couldn't go on in perpetuity. How long do wookies live? Does anyone know?

It's entirely possible he could die, but since Wookiees seem to live for a very long time, can't see why he can't finish out this trilogy and could even be in the next one.

 

Wookies live for centuries. Chewie himself is meant to be over 200 years old if I'm not mistaken. And he looks like he's still in the prime of life. So really he could probably end up outliving ALL of the main cast (except for maybe R2 and C3P0 and now BB-8).

Apparently he's still strong enough to rip Unkar Plutt's arm off and toss it across the room, so I'd say the old walking carpet has plenty of parsecs left in him.

 

Please, please, please don't take this the wrong way but honestly, there are more important characters in this trilogy who could/should die. Sorry, Chewie, don't hate me!!!

 

I find this funny. My 10yo daughter tells me the other day that 3 boys in her grade were saying that since Han died in TFA, Chewie had to be the next one to die. She and a few others were saying they did not think Chewie was going to die. I'm not sure if that means that us adults here in the Cantina are operating at a 4th grade level or if the fourth graders at my daughter's school are having in depth discussions about the state of SW. I like to think it is the latter but they my just be my pride talking.

The more I think about what I have just written, I think it demonstrates how great of a job TFA did at resurrecting the 10 yo in all of us and transporting us back our childhoods when we fell in love with a GFFA
