Sorry if this topic had already been posted somewhere, but what is everyone's thoughts on the rumor I keep hearing about Jedha being the same planet as Starkiller Base. I first saw the rumor on slash films, but it has since surfaced in numerous places.

Personally, I find this rumor hard to swallow, because
    1) the planets do not look like each other and
    2) it is also rumored that Jedha gets destroyed.

Now, according to the rumors I've heard the Empire is after Jedha due to the Kyber crystals. It is suggested they gutted the planet entirely, hence the appearance of Starkiller Base. If such a thing was possible, this would be a neat way to tie in the Anthology films to the saga films.

    What do you guys think?

I hadn't heard this rumor yet. Thanks for bringing it to us!

I agree with you. I don't think Jedha is Starkiller Base, either. If we follow the stereotypical planet-wide ecosystem norm that Star Wars has (so far), then we should be seeing pine trees on Jedha. ;)

But as I said in another thread, I highly doubt Jedha gets destroyed.

I feel Jedha is just a test firing target, it could be something to do with this.

Indeed from what I understand Jedha is sort of a Jedi Holy site, thus the DS using it as target practice would be a pretty good final F-you to the Jedi by both Palpatine and Darth Vader.

It is an interesting idea, and I can add it to the list of theories I've heard that I wish were true, but unfortunately Jedha is not a planet, it's a moon. From Starwars.com:

"A small desert moon frosted by a permanent winter, Jedha is home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force."

Starwars.com also re-confirms that Starkiller base is a planet and not a moon:

"Deep in the Unknown Regions, the First Order has constructed a superweapon that uses an entire planet as its weapons platform"

For me, that simple fact debunks it. That's no moon! It's a...planet.

Jedha is definately not Starkiller base. I got the new galactic atlas today and they are on 2 separate locations, but Jedha could be something else. :p

The galactic map is missing Ach-to, so Jedha could be a moon of Ach-to which makes me believe Ach-to is in reality Tython. :)

Jedha is a 'frozen' desert moon, while Jakku was 'hot' desert planet. So, I would say they are 2 different planets all together.

I thought Starkiller base was the kyber planet Ilum. Which was one of the most sacred planets to the Jedi at one point.

It might be. Evidence exists for it but at one point there was something official suggesting that this is not the case.

Fair enough do you have this bit of official reasoning? If not don’t worry I’m just interested.

Illum was/is about 3,000 km across. SKB was 660km across. Then some (I think it was a poster) said that illum was 660km across. So everbody was like "told ya SKB was Illum!" But now i think Illum is back to 3,000km across.

Personal canon. I think SKB was a moon of Illum or in the same system.

Here's what Jedha looks "now" (between EpIV and V):

Wow... that single reactor ignition was pretty (overly) effective.

Like, I'm pretty sure it would've rendered the planet inhospitable, regardless.

In the comics (Star Wars 38-43) Han, Luke and Leia come to Jedha to prevent the Empire from strip-mining it. The planet was... surpisingly habitable for it's state and even what's left of Gerrera's crew were still around.
