The reunification of Din and Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett was met with cheers from fans, albeit some were surprised by how quickly the characters came back together. Moreover, for those viewers who enjoy The Mandalorian but didn’t tune in for The Book of Boba Fett there is likely to be some confusion about Din and Grogu appearing together in trailers for season 3. Fans on both ends of the spectrum have had to square the hard-fought journey in seasons 1 and 2 to deliver Grogu to a Jedi, ending in an emotional goodbye and a gripping Luke Skywalker cameo with the (literally) speedy reunion in Mos Espa in The Book of Boba Fett.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Favreau addressed the reunification of Din and Grogu and what it meant for season 3 of The Mandalorian, saying:

Speaking about balancing Grogu’s time with Luke against the goal to reunite him with Din, Favreau said:

For fans who have never heard of Paper Moon, it is a 1973 film that takes place during the Great Depression and is about a con man who agrees to take a recently orphaned girl to her family in Missouri, only for them to develop a strong father-daughter bond along the way.

It’s clear that Favreau understands the desire both to have Din and Grogu remain together, and to see Grogu expand his abilities with the Force.

Based on the trailer, we’re able to see that Grogu’s Force abilities are getting stronger. Will Din find a way to continue to foster Grogu’s abilities? Will Grogu meet more Jedi along the way?

I may have missed it but does anyone know exactly how long they were apart exactly? Or how long did Luke have with Grogu?

I don't think they gave any indication or alluded to it in any way, it almost seems purposely ambiguous, although I can't really think of a reason why that would be... I also can't see a way that the answer would come up, unless Mando were to say something like, "That was a lonely six weeks without the kid" For me, it's more about what happened during that time. Mando found himself hunting again, unhappily, tracked down the Armorer, learned the gravity of the Darksaber, was shunned by his Covert, rebuilt the N-1, was sent away when he went to visit Grogu, and went to work with Boba Fett. Grogu learned a little and started to remember a lot. He was far enough along to start lightsaber training, and decided to leave the Jedi way for the Mando way... So quite a lot happened that technically was not shown in the continuity of the series. It almost feels like they are afraid to say "if you haven't seen Book of Boba Fett, you should watch it now" like maybe they fear it will seem like a shill or hard sell.

The board has had lengthy discussions about this back in the TBoBF days. Personally, I don't see that it matters. You did a great job of highlighting all the things that happened while they were separated. Those are the things that really matter, not a specific timeline.

The key things are: 1) Grogu was trained by the Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker. How long it was -- be it six weeks or six months -- doesn't really matter; and 2) Both Grogu and Din cemented their Mudhorn Clan of Two. :)

Grogu will barely be 100 when Luke and Mando pass. He can go be a Jedi then. He can do both in his long life.
