Kanjiklub Gang and Tasu Leech ?

Did anyone actually say they were Asian actors, or was it just us arbitrarily assuming such? I can't remember.

So let's try this out. Maybe Han doesn't take Rey and Finn to Maz after all. Maybe the kanjiklub fights off the Unkar and take the MF to their leader, Maz. Maybe our heroes are prisoners. Maybe they're set free when Maz learns Han is a friend of Luke's. On Golan, Han somehow wins or earns the MF back.

Maybe some version of that?

 

Perhaps this is how we get from Jakku to Maz's castle? The Kanjiklub could be a group of Pirates that takes raids the Falcon and takes them all to Maz's castle. However, when they meet Maz, she sees or is presented the lightsaber and this completely changes things.

This only confuses me more though if Maz is handing the lightsaber over to Leia.

 

Agreed. Maybe Leia responds to BB8s Beacon like someone suggested. There's that clip of him hiding on the MF. Maybe he's sends Leia a beacon because they're captured by the Kanjiklub.

A lot of what we know about the film is whee people are and not about motive. They aren't traveling the galaxy saying "hey let's fly here now". There's a lot were missing so far.

The Rockers derive from Yavin IV. They are chasing Han Solo because he's probably smuggling for the resistance and made enemies along the way.

The Mods derive from Jakku. They are chasing Rey because they realize she has a light saber inside a droid that could make a lot of money. It's when Rey has a dispute over selling BB-8 that they chase her. They could also be chasing her simply because she stole the Falcon.

When she gets to the freighter, both pirate groups collide and combine forces to capture Rey and Han.

Also Mods have a target symbol, much like the "pit droid" helmet we think we've seen the Mods wear.

 

Which makes me more convinced that Han and Rey are father and daughter. I know a lot of people are fixated on the "going nowhere life" on a desert planet but being chased by pirates and using the Falcon to escape is also parallel to Han Solo. I think the first act is going to show her story as being reminiscent of both Solo-Skywalker. Which is what she is, IMO.

 

Actually, that does make sense in a way. If you work on the assumption that perhaps Leia is not actually happy to see Han rock up on her doorstep after all these years with a load of strangers in tow... handing the saber to Leia may be a "yeah, but we brought this..." gesture that brings her onboard.

 

I think Leia is the one who sends Han to get Rey in the first place, the estrangement is because Han screws up and gets caught by dumb pirates, probably because the damn hyperdrive didn't work again when it was supposed to.

Remember it looks like Leia is wearing a wedding ring, so the 'estrangement' is probably just like their usual rows.

 

That's all totally sound reasoning.
In fact, being a fan of The Who, I can't believe I hadn't already made the connection between the target motif and the codename "mods".


A couple of things occur to me - just kind of brainstorming out loud:
:: It appeared at one point the confrontation on the freighter is where Rey proves herself by fighting off "the gang", so I'm doubtful Han and co are captured. It seems to me like one gang from Jakku is tailing Rey and the Falcon, and the other gang is either after Han, or is in the middle of doing business with Han when a rival gang show up and becomes enraged as a result. I think it will pan out that our heroes become inadvertently stuck in the middle of a turf war and ultimately leave the two gangs to fight it out among themselves, fleeing in the Falcon.

:: "Rockers" were needed for whatever was filmed at Puzzlewood. It's not nailed on, but it is likely the Puzzlewood shoot is linked to the location of Maz's castle. So are the Rockers linked to Maz's crew? Was Han working for them initially? The only confusing thing about this is that neither Lego toy - Kanjiklub Gang member or Tasu Leech - looks like the techno "mod" guys from the SDCC footage. Maybe Unkar Henchman does, it's hard to tell, but then the Unkar henchman figure comes with the Rey's Speeder set and Tasu and Kanjiklub come with the Falcon. So which are "Mods" and which are the "Rockers"? Kanjiklub being the Jakku gang (mods) and Unkar being the freighter gang (rockers) makes most sense, but if that is the case, the look of the minfigures and the sets they are associated with seems to be the wrong way around... hmmm...
:: I'm more and more beginning to think Han is a free agent at the start of the movie. No ties with Leia and the Resistance. No ties with Luke. It seems we get to spend more time with Han, and then Leia, and eventually Luke, are brought in. I think the events in the alleged flashback will be pivotal in why exactly these three characters went their separate ways. In fact - everyone seems to focus on "why did Luke disappear?" when the real question might be "why did Han, Luke and Leia all go their separate ways?". Just because Luke needs to be brought into the story by the events that unfold does not mean he is necessarily hiding or in exile.

 

Total speculation, but if Han and Leia are estranged and Han does have a price on his head, maybe Han ditched the Falcon to evade detection. When Maz et al capture him (tractor him in), they take him to the highest bidder -- who turns out to be Leia. Would be an interesting twist if Han thinks he's being delivered to a rival, only to have Leia turn up to collect him. Would Leia outbid all other bounties to ensure Han's safe return? I think maybe she would....
