Poe Dameron, while introducing Finn, addresses Leia as General Organa when they return to the Resistance Base. Just struck me as odd that she chose not to go by Solo OR Skywalker after the events of ROTJ.

Solo is understandable given that Leia and Han split (not entirely sure if it's been confirmed that they were married?). But Skywalker has me scratching my head a bit. Is it just a case of Leia going by the name she always had or do you think there's more to it? Clearly she has her reasons for rejecting the name Skywalker

Do we have any evidence that women take their husband's last name in the Star Wars universe? Also, Skywalker was never her name.

Good question. But as far as Skywalker, she learned that was her true name when Luke told her that she was his sister.. and Anakin their father

She did. But why would she ever abandon the name of the people who raised her? The only family she's ever known? The only name she's ever had? Especially in favor of a name that she associates with someone else.

I'm not willing to give up my name. It's a part of my identity. I wouldn't expect any differently from these characters.

Well of course that's the obvious line of thinking, makes sense to me. But it's possible there's more to it

My oldest son is not biologically mine. I met his mother when she was 3 months pregnant. I told him when he was 5 that I didn't create him. When he was 13 I asked him if he wanted me to help him find the guy who did. He said no. I asked him if he wanted to change his last name to mine. He said no I want things to be the same as they always been.

I didn't ask any more questions.

Just wondering, has it been confirmed Ben goes by Skywalker and not Solo?

Awesome :) I'm sure it's as simple as that. I just wondered if it also had something to do with her disgust of Vader and the idea of him being her father, redeemed or not

I think it's generally assumed he went by Ben Solo. It'd either be that or Organa. I don't know why Skywalker would be a possibility.

lol.. perhaps this thread was my dumb moment xD Was just curious if there may have been a little more to it. I'm totally fine with her going by Organa and it does make sense that she would. But in regards to this question, i'm also curious:

Did Padme remain Amidala? I believe she did if memory serves correctly, given her political status and the "forbidden" nature of her relationship to Anakin as far as the Jedi Council was concerned. I suppose this applies to Leia as well. Not so much for secrecy but for her political position in the Republic/Resistance. But on that note.. I guess the real question is this: Was it common knowledge following ROTJ that Leia and Luke were siblings? It was to Han and to us as an audience of course, but I'm not sure if that's something that remained their own little secret moving forward.

We don't know how far the information about her being Vader's daughter has spread. Politically it makes sense for her to have kept the well respected Organa name.

In the "Shattered Empire" comics, Poe Dameron's mother goes as Shara Bey (not Dameron) even when she's married to Poe's dad. So I guess it is a matter or choice in a galaxy far, far away to keep one's name or change it. (Maybe at one point both of them were generals - Leia and Han - and it would be troublesome to call "General Solo" and to know which one lol - sort of what happened in Downton Abbey Season 6 with Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes).

Regarding the Skywalker, I would really like the new canon between ROTJ and TFA to address that - Leia's perspective regarding her Skywalker lineage. I don't think she would change her name to Skywalker due to the mixed feelings she has regarding Anakin/Vader. The one who witnessed Anakin's redemption was Luke, not her. One of the good things of the Legends was how they addressed Leia coming to terms with her heritage (an Anakin Force-ghost apparition in "Truce at Bakura", her personal acknowledgement of her being Anakin's daughter in "Tatooine Ghost", etc). So I'd expect to see how she deals with it, especially since we know now that her offspring is following her dad's steps...

It makes more sense that she would keep the name of the family that raised her, than the name of the man who helped to murder them, along with everyone on her home planet. (Also I think Carrie Fisher kept her name while she was married to Paul Simon, so a dose of real life)

I think someone mentioned somewhere that according to the new Incredible Cross Sections chapter on the Falcon, Leia and Han did marry and she did change her name to Solo. Guess they had a space divorce?

It's been thirty years... in the old EU, Mothma was the leader ("Chief of State") for ages and then Leia eventually succeeded her.

    Mmmmmh...
Padme's name is Naberrie. She's called Padme Naberrie. From Naberrie's family, from Naboo.
When Padme went queen, she took as an alias name Queen Amidala.

So, she is Pasme Naberrie, aka Queen Amidala.

Padme Naberrie is the living person. Queen Amidala is the Royal function, the political figure.

On Earth, we got for example Elisabeth Windsor, aka Queen Elisabeth II.
