    I just pray the new cantina scene doesn't mirror the original too much. I'm glad there's a new scene but I worry Rey or somebody will get into a fight and just copy the original scene. I just want some glory shots of all the aliens and Finn and Rey's reactions. They sit down and meet Maz Kanata, and that's it.

    Lin Manuel Miranda is not a rapper.
    He is a highly acclaimed Broadway composer.
    Who is better at rapping than at singing.
    But since he won't be performing the Cantina scene, that doesn't really factor.

    Might their be rap? Yes, there might. But there just as well could be a sultry Jazz tune, whispered by a lady with two mouths.

    It's Lin Miranda and the fact that you can’t ever know what he will come up with is part of the fun

    John Williams is a real pro; he can do anything you ask him to do. He wrote this short, snappy, poppy, silly little thing just four or five years ago:



    Writing music like the stuff he wrote for the original cantina band may even come more naturally to him than the big orchestral stuff considering that he started out as a jazz musician. Not only that, but his father was the drummer in Raymond Scott's jazz quintet, and the cantina music is basically Williams's homage to Scott. With the cantina band, Williams was emulating music he grew up hearing constantly. Here's an example of a Scott piece (with Williams's dad on drums) that's very similar in character to the cantina music:

    The only thing with "Star Wars" and "rap" I've ever liked --- and I don't want to see it actually in Star Wars.
