A few days ago, Esquire posted an article with 'A Comprehensive List of Star Wars Plot Holes'. Of course the list is pretty subjective, but things got really interesting when Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo decided to answer and explain some of them just for fun.

While some of these are fair criticisms, most would agree that many of these 'plot holes' are not really plot holes at all. Just because an explanation isn't given or readily available doesn't necessarily mean there is an error. A plot hole by definition is an error or inconsistency in logic with respect to the established plot of the story. When an event happens or something is said that would be logically impossible given other events or statements in the story, that is plot hole. While Pablo's arguments are mostly solid, they still have a point on some of these...how did Luke get past that blockade anyway? We may never know.

    Yep.
That wasn't really a wolf runnin' down toward the sheep pen.

... was just the neighbor's dog.

Oh, and that Luke/Hoth/Blockade thing ?

There is an answer, I ain't canon anymore.

It's in the ESB Radio Drama, for whatever that's worth.

Welcome to Star Wars. :p Pablo probably upset a lot of Star Wars fans, because when it concerns alleged plotholes, they live by the adagium Aut inveniam viam aut faciam

About the force ghost thing, I think George Lucas explained it a long time ago: the reason why the ghosts show up to Luke skywalker in the forms that they do is because they died as Jedi...Anakin "died" when he became Darth Vader and he died as he became Anakin Anakin again so he presents himself as his pure jedi self just as obi wan and yoda, who all died in their lightest, purest form of old age..

About the blockade, Luke has been a rebel for three years, is an ace pilot, and his best (living) friend is/was a smuggler. I think he probably learned a few tricks.

This ↑ coupled with the technological fundamentalism of The Empire during asymmetrical warfare is enough for me.

Like the great Rebel tactician General H.L. Mencken once said...

"No one in the galaxy, so far as I know—and I have researched the records for years, and employed droids to help me—has ever lost money by overestimating the arrogance and hubris of The Empire's military command.”

Pablo's second point, in reference the second question in this section, is very interesting, particularly the "know yet" part.

I'm hopeful that could mean we might get a chance to learn more about Snoke.

His take on Luke’s name is interesting. Technically, we don’t hear the name ‘Skywalker’ until AFTER he’s spoken with OB1. Although, Red Leader does call him ‘Skywalker’ right in front of Biggs and Mr. Mustache doesn’t bat an eye. Meh.
Edit: Isn't that the smuggler that got captured? :D

Yeah, that Snoke comment leads me to believe we're not done with the character yet- at least not in canon media, it's possible he won't have any part to play in 9 still.

With the Blockade- much like the Death Star trench run, it's pretty clear that a small snub fighter can evade the Empire's weapons relatively well. The concern was for the Rebel transports escaping. If only a bunch of one person fighters escaped Hoth, the Rebels would have still lost the majority of their resources, weapons, and personnel.

Plus, in the chaos of the end of the battle, do you think the Empire is going to prioritize chasing after a single X-Wing, or other stragglers (including what appears to be a limping Millennium Falcon)?

"We are what they grow beyond." ;)

In ANH, they got caught, but no illegal materials were found (until...you know...they tried to rescue the Leia).

In ESB, I'll give Han a pass. The Empire's employee caught him, not the Empire itself.

"Why do all the force ghosts appear to Luke as he knew them in his life, except Anakin?"

I find Pablo's answer vague and unconvincing...
Hoping one day this is answered legitimately. I have no problem with Hayden as the Anakin force ghost, I just would like a good in universe explanation for it is all...

"How did Snoke become a dark lord if there were no Sith left after Return of the Jedi?"

Pablo's answer + you don't need to be a sith or a dark lord to use the dark side of the force. Just as you don't need to be a Jedi to be able to use the light or, just use / have the force. One of the points luke was trying to make in TLJ was they aren't mutally exclusive...

I don't see these as plot holes so much as stuff that just still needs to be covered... Hopefully it will.
