Yes, Luke is the key, and Anakin is the lost treasure locked within Vader's suit.
    That would be hilarious :).

I'm not sure exactly why I feel this way... but I'm not a fan of Obi Wan being involved in galactic action while he's on Tatooine. It's pretty clear in ANH that he's out of practice and his powers are weak. There's a reason for that, he's hiding and making it impossible for Vader to know he's around.

They really need to leave Luke out of this. Too much retrofitting and revisionist history is probably a bad thing. Go create an original story without borrowing from the biggest OT story.

All that's clear in ANH is that his lightsaber prowess is weak. We still don't know how adept he has become with the force during his years of exile on Tatooine. Remember he has been communing with Yoda and Obi-Wan the whole time. Ben can still defeat Maul if he uses his intellect and cunning, he was called "the negotiator" for a reason.

His prowess is weak because he isn't at his peak anymore and he was pretty old...according to Lucas it was because he wanted to show that the pwoer of the jedi and the force had weakened due to Order 66 and the eradication of the entire jedi order which is why there's the drastic difference...the issue, though, is the way he looks fighting Maul since he would most likely looks almost exactly like Alec Guiness now .

Which has since been retconned by both Lucas and the storygroup.

He is shown to still be proficient in the force during the Star Wars comics. Only his lightsaber skills have become rusty.

Obi-Wan is still learning new force feats during his exile on Tatooine, and he also displays he more than capable of using the force in ANH. He mind-tricks the Stormtroopers on Tatooine and the Death Star, and the Tusken Raiders. Ben has also been learning abilities that tie to the cosmic aspect of the force during his 19 year "holiday", we have yet to see if this extends beyond becoming a force ghost.

Easy, he lives in isolation and is "the negotiator". There is little trouble near his property and he can talk himself out of any in the spaceports. He has little need for a lightsaber.

So did Yoda...even during the jedi order but he nearly handed Palpatine's butt to him .

Yoda went on missions for the Jedi Order and the Republic, and he trained younglings. He had plenty of need for a lightsaber then.

I meant in the sense that we never see him go on missions and ignite his blade until AOTC/ROTS .

Okay, but that has nothing to do with a potential Maul/ Obi-Wan duel.

If he was so enhanced in the force by the time we get to ANH, why don't we see him break out those powers against Vader? He wasn't more powerful. Vader knows it and says "your powers are weak old man."

But Vader was wrong. In the fight against Vader Obi Wan was preparing preserve his consciousness after death, so his powers were diverted elsewhere. Vader mistook that for weakness.

Suicide by Vader? I'm sure that's the way it's been revised with TCW etc., but back in the day when ANH was released that wasn't the plan. It wasn't until TESB when they knew they needed a mentor to point Luke to Yoda that they invented force ghosts. but whatever

Luke heard OWK's voice during the battle of Yavin though and he did have the line - "If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" so they were obviously going somewhere along those lines.

Even then, the point was being made that OBW had gained more knowledge of the Force than Vader since their last meeting, by that quote alone.

Not really... Vader knew that trick too... and could also make his force ghost younger!
