When each new episode of the OT was released, the theme music had modified orchestrations. The PT had the same orchestration for all three movies, so I'm wondering how the theme music will sound in the upcoming movies? Will it sound slightly different again or the same as the PT?

My guess is that it will be Williams’ decision based on the mood of the score and the trilogy in general. He’s never been against reusing clips (especially as he has gotten older) as long as they work. But if he thinks the feel of the new trilogy calls for different orchestration, I’m sure he will write a new arrangement.

Well I am sure it would sound a little bit different than it has in previous movies but not anything drastic. One of the moments I am looking forward too the most is when Binary Sunset plays with Daisy Ridley staring off to the horizon. It will be magical!

What I am looking forward to the most when it comes to the new score is the new theme song. Ep. I had "Duel Of The Fates" which more or less was the ongoing theme of the PTs and Ep. V had "The Imperial March" much is in my opinion the best Star Wars theme ever. Hopefully John Williams has more awesome scores in him.

I think it goes without saying that we'll hear some familiar themes such as Luke and Leia's. We may hear the brief Han theme (less known as the others.) BUT I can honestly say I'd be a tad disappointed if the new heroes and villains didn't have their own themes, specifically the lovely Miss Daisy Ridley. I would also expect a theme for John Boyega as well. Course, we will NOT be disappointed by the maestro John Williams. He is a perfect composer.

IMO id like to hear the classic theme and the imperial march but with a more modern tempo, such as an industrial or electric tempo

What is Han's theme? Sorry to derail, but that's news to me and I like to consider myself well versed in SW music. I never noticed a Han theme? Do you happen to know a scene where it is played in full (or as close to full as possible). Is it more of a motif like the droid motif created for ESB or Luke's or is it a full blown theme ala Yoda or Leia?

I'm one of the few that was hoping Zimmer or Gregson would have been brought in for the music, to create it's own distinctive mood.

Yes, I understand where you're coming from. I didn't realize Han had an actual theme, but according to the liner notes for TESB Special edition soundtrack he does. I don't believe that's it's listed on the track listings but is actually intertwined with Leia's theme. I don't have access to it right now or I'd write the lines from the notes, BUT if you have a copy check it out.

IMO his theme should feature prominently in Episode VII since it's rumored he will. :)

Thanks. I lost my liner notes along with all my cd cases years ago after I was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of the ipod. But I'll do some more research and see what I can find. Didn't see anything in a quick google search yesterday, but I was at work and didn't have time to do extensive research.

    The hunt is on!(boba fett)

No problem! I'll take a look when I get a chance and see what was written in them.

    Hey Max!

So I looked at my liner notes for TESB:

    Page 13

Han's theme appears during The Battle of Hoth (Escape in the Millennium Falcon)

"As Han, Chewbacca, the Princess, and C-3PO reach the Falcon, Solo's theme is intercut with Vader's as the Corellian starship again comes to the rescue in the nick of time. The Han Solo theme continues, rounding out as Luke takes off . . . "

With the OT, each movie's score sounded different in that if you heard a bit of music from either of the, you'd immediately know which movie it was from. You had a hard trouble with the PT in that each didn't have its own distinct sound.

Listen to Jerry Goldmsith's Star Trek: The Motion Picture theme for example. In each movie it was used (TMP, Star Trek V, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis) and TNG, each sounded different due to the orchestrations and most will know which one it is just from the sound of it.

Williams did the OT score, and spoke of how the music evolved over the course...

then he did the PT, and spoke quite at length of how he "de-evolved" the music for that...

I assume he will do the same stellar job he always does...

Considering that he's my favourite composer, I have no doubt he'll do a stellar job.
