~The character "Nien Nunb" is performed by the original ROTJ puppeteer; who performed the puppet-version of "Nien Nunb". *The "leaked" photo of the character is actually the puppeteer Mike Quinn.

Didn't the performer behind Nien Nunb in ROTJ pass away earlier this year?

Nien Nunb was performed by 2 people. Mike Quinn operated Nunb's face, which was a large animatronic hand puppet, and Richard Bonehill was the extra wearing the full body suit. It was Bonehill who passed away recently.

Nein Numb was scanned in as an Action figure in the 300+ Camera 360 3d super sonic 43000 mark 7 Action figure generator. :D

I am assuming there is a small person playing him as he was indeed scanned for the action figure along with other actors & extras.

Poor Nien doesn't look as though he's been allowed to change clothes since the Battle of Endor. Someone take this hero to a T.J. Max and buy him wardrobe options. :)

Its so cool to see old characters again in Star Wars. I had the same feeling when I saw Jabba and Bib Fortuna in TPM. The most coolest thing in Nien Nunb is his laught and how it sounds his language.

I get the sense there's this big barrel called "nostalgia" sitting next to JJ and whenever he's in doubt about the film, he dips into the barrel and just smears raw nostalgia over it. Like adding sugar to bad coffee. :)

I kid, I think the film is going to be great, but I do wonder sometimes if they are going to overdo the "reunion tour" vibe.

Also the new Nien Nunb mask looks awesome.

It is kind of a difficult balance if you ask me. You want to appeal to the original audience, yet also give them something fresh and new. For me at least, too many characters were shoehorned in to the PT for nostalgia sake, when they weren't necessary. Sometimes, it just felt too forced. This is significantly different in my mind, however, when you are projecting characters into the future, rather than looking back at them in the past like the PT did.

With regard to returning minor bit characters in TFA, I see no problem with bringing back Nien Nunb and the like. It makes sense to me to involve nearly any character that survived through ROTJ, had a long enough life span to make it to TFA, and was significantly involved in the prior events (but not necessarily most prominent). You certainly can't argue that Nien Nunb wasn't important enough in the final battle in ROTJ. After reflecting on it, I would probably wonder what happened to him if he was not included in TFA.

From what we have seen so far, I think TFA is striking a pretty good balance.

I don't get this at all; I feel they're working very hard not to make TFA a nostalgia trip. There are loads of big things left out (Like Lando for crying out loud!), and the returns we do get are down played and transitional only (I feel). As for style and a retro-way of doing things, that's just plain old good sense. Nope, I think TFA will be very fresh (probably too fresh for some fans).

And yeah, as you say @Snazel, the Nien Nunb mask do look awesome :D

If Nien Nunb's inclusion has meaning rather than just a guffaw moment, I'm down. I love the mask.

The "new" Star Trek II shows just how awful it is if you force the nostalgia down your throat. I think we'll get something a lot more tasteful than that film. I just worry, we'll get a "It's a Trap" moment, just for the sake of reliving it like a "greatest hits" tour of 70-year old men who lip syncing in spandex. :)

Recycled dialogue from the last six films is actually my biggest worry about TFA. That stuff just completely trashed the dialogue in the PT.

There has yet to be an episode of Rebels that doesn't have a re-used or retooled line from the OT and PT.

One thing is for sure is there is a lot of "new" as well as old. And I like the old, but I don't want it hambone and trite. Give Nien Nunb a moment but give him some progression and purpose too. If he's just there for a gag, then don't bother.

I know you have to inject stuff like this because it sells toys and I know it must be very hard to cram it all in there without cutting some of it down to a simple gag, but I just hope they tread with some caution. You can't just hand it back to the fans reheated.

This film is really at the crux of the brand's identity for the next decade at least too. I really believe if this film is a bit of a dud, the negative impact on the brand going forward will be one of diminishing returns and probably a little damage to the Disney stock itself.

On the other hand, a hit, a bonafide "America loves Star Wars again" that registers just as loudly on Good Morning America as it does on the global channels of the nerds waiting for their raid to start in Warcraft, could reap both profit and prestige to Disney that could delight Wall Street and boost the stock.

And the line between "excellent" and "meh" is sometimes just as subtle as a few edits. Go review the development of Episode IV and how editing the film in that sharp, crisp way was the key to the film's success. An entire scene can sometimes ride on just the right cut or take selection if you need a simpler example, consider the improvised "I know" dialog, that saves the structure of that scene from collapsing entirely.

You want to see the most pedantic, detail oriented passionate argumentative discussions ever? Get a director and an editor working on a critical scene, when its late, the coffee just ain't keeping you awake anymore, you got to push through because you're already behind a day.

And it is those decisions, those tiny decisions in the heat of battle that often define a great film from a mediocre one.

I actually disagree with this. I think the PT was very different in scope, feel, characterization, and look from the OT - it was very much its own thing (which, of course, was intentional). If anything, IMHO, George Lucas shied away from the OT too much when making the PT.

The ST will probably be more nostalgic than the PT.

Maybe it's a uniform for his planet's armed forces? Maybe a religious garment? Maybe he's like my dad and has worn a flannel shirt every day for 20 years?

Couldn't agree more, if I hear "I've got a bad feeling about this" one more time i'm gonna scream.
