SPECULATION # of large-scale battles in TFA

If that scene appears, I'll bet it's during the Starkiller battle. I'm not sure if it will, however. Also I'm not entirely sure if you could count Jakku, as that seems to be a skirmish between the falcon and a few TIE fighters. Hardly a full-on battle.

 

When I read the MSW script I imagined the Jakku battle as more of a raid/massacre, but the trailers are making it seem much larger in scale. Same with the battle of Takodana, it reads like a minor skirmish, yet the trailers show it to be a huge aerial battle, which might make the Battle for the Starkiller Base seem repetitive. On a side note, these new stormtroopers really kick ass during these battles. They are cutthroat and threatening.

 

Are you talking about only space battles or battles in general. If it's the latter, thenJakku would count. Then again, we still aren't fully sure about the details of Jakku........

 

- Falcon escapes Jakku
- Poe saves Han, Finn, Chewie and the survivors from Starkiller's blast on Tokadana
- Attacking Starkiller

 

I have a feeling that the space battle will be above the Starkiller Base planet. The invasion on Starkiller will take place and then the First Order will retaliate with a full scale defensive attack to drive the Resistance back into the space above the planet eventually. Where it will go from there, I don't know, but the theme is current in the Star Wars poster on the left side with two X-Wings in space with explosions behind them. I would assume this is in space like they show it and there is no coincidence that it was shown that way. Space battle or no, I am perfectly cool with the in-atmosphere battle we got. We sort of had that feeling in the prequels with the Count Dooku chase scene, but not with fighters and not really much of an air to air battle with several hundred strong all against each other. JJ Abrams will have reinvented atmospheric battles and I feel that this is also why Star Wars Battlefront really focused on that aspect as well in their new game coming in November. The Force is strong with the atmosphere in the new trilogy. I can feel that we may start with that and end with some classic space battles in Episode IX very reminiscent to that in Return of the Jedi.

 

I'm counting two large-scale battles: Maz's castle and Starkiller. The Jakku thing seems rather one-sided, and not a battle at all.
