    This made me think:
    Say that we were given an Episode 6.5 before TFA, where we saw the Solo's together as a happy family. Would the final meeting between Han and Ben on SKB hit you harder if we had seen their history, or is it so powerful because we never did see that and never will get a chance?

    I'm really torn on this... But I wanna say it's so much more tragic that we jump into this at the conclusion of their story. :(

    i'm inclined to agree. much as i feel like that Millennium Falcon scene is ridiculously powerful, it's too much. i think the potency between Han and Ben lies in the sense of yearning: what they are to each other now, what they maybe should have been but can never be.

    if we had all the details and knew they were happy once, or saw them fight all the time, it wouldn't give us as much room to ache at the unknowingness of it all. i think in storytelling in general, often too much is stated, shown, explained. the beauty of something like this is that it's nonspecific enough that anyone and everyone can insert themselves and their own experience into it and in that way there is a universality to its meaning.
