I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. I wanted to get a costume that I could 1) wear opening night to see episode 7 and 2) put on a manikin to display in my man cave.

I really would like to be a x-wing pilot. The problem is, I can't seem to find any x-wing pilot costumes in 2x or 3x. I'm a big guy. 54 inch chest, 48 to 50 inch waist, 34ish torso. Being a stormtrooper is out of the question for me!

Is there anywhere online that I might be missing? I seemed to have combed over google with no results.

hey @pilot2fly welcome to our cantina! I too am a huge star wars fan (pun intended) and your right it is very difficult to find pre-made costumes of exceptional quality. the truth is that one size fits all costumes from halloween specialty stores just dont cut it. Iv been doing cosplay for years and have found that making your own costume is way more satisfying then finding one pre-made and you can custom fit it too.

the good news is that orange flight suits arent hard to find.

this here flight suit from amazon comes in 3XL (49 inch waist) would be perfect. it might not be screen accurate but it would sure look good. and you could modify the waist by adding some elastic. if you feel like thats beyond your capability you can get it done at some dry cleaners or better yet a Taylor. trust me though if it fits exactly perfect around the waist when you wear it standing then you will want to add an inch or 2 for maneuverability. the elastic is great for that and orange is an easy color to match for the extra fabric you will need...or you could just take fabric from the hem since you will be wearing some boots. Like I said before the rest will be props...

Have fun at the opening bro and good luck.

remove the spaces and paste to your browser bar...our system doesnt let us link to amazon for some reason.

Thanks so much. I did go on youtube and found a video where a guy made his own x-wing pilot uniform. I saw those flightsuits on Amazon. Elastic wouldn't be hard to do. My biggest concern is finding a good flak vest and chest box. I saw one guy took a TV dinner box and painted it then put the buttons on. Not sure if doing all that is out of my league or not though.

EDIT: So I decided to go with the orange flight suit you recommended. I also found some cheap boots and gloves. I decided to go with the Vader gloves from amazon ($10) and the Tringley Men's work boots ($20). amazon.com/Tingley-31151-Economy-Agriculture-15-Inch/dp/B005F185MY/ref=lp_679307011_1_28?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1441673587&sr=1-28&nodeID=679307011

Have not bought anything yet, but would like some feedback on the boots and gloves. I'm also debating buying the cheap x-wing adult XL size costume for the helmet, tunic, and chest box. I am concerned that the tunic will be too small for my chest, as it's designed for a chest up to 46 inches. I'm around 54 inches. Perhaps I could sew some more white velcro to the top of the vest (over the shoulders) and the strap under the arms to make it bigger?

Check out the 501st legion and Rebel legion pages. Some costumes work well for bigger guys, others do not. The rebel legion forums will have lots of resources to help you put your rebel pilot costume together.

On the imperial side, the snow trooper, naval trooper, and scout troopers work pretty well for bigger guys.
