I was just wondering if there's a chance of a big part of TLJ that could surprise us, because we haven't got any footage, pictures or rumors about it.
Before TFA, we basically had a shot or something from every major scene, so we already had the film's structure in our minds and questions remained only about nuances of each scene.
But with the Last Jedi, I feel that they are a bit more careful about what they are showing and saying in the marketing (RJ even said that he has set rules for that). Also, TLJ is gonna be 2:30 hours long so there is more space for surprises.
It would just be so amazing to be surprised by a big chunk of the film we didn't even speculate about because we didn't get any allusions to it anywhere, like a whole new planet or another location, unexpected characters or a whole 3rd act that would blow our minds..

What do you think? What chance is there for this? Or do you feel you already know the plot pretty well? Am I wrong about how much we knew about TFA? Let's discuss!

Yep, plenty we don't know about. That's it. I'll leave it at that.

we've seen some key locations, but it's interesting that we've seen almost no Canto Bight in any of the trailers.
so expect there's lots of possibilities to be discovered in the film that we haven't considered.

and even with regard to the things/ships/places that we do know about, i'm sure there will be plenty of surprises! : D

Star Wars episodic films usually have three main locations.

    Tatooine Death Star Yavin 4
    Hoth Dagobah Bespin
    Tatooine Dagobah Endor
    Naboo Tatooine Coruscant

AotC had five Coruscant, Naboo, Tatooine, Kamino, Geonosis

Then Sith was back to three

Coruscant, Utupau, Mustufar though there were brief scenes of others during the order 66 sequence.

So far we know of four in TLJ - Ach-to, Canto Bite, and Dqar. That would normally be it but this is the longest film in the series there could be one more, but it's a stretch seeing as we also know there will be scenes on both resistance and first order ships. Maybe a brief scene at the end of somewhere in the unknown regions to tee up episode 9?

Maybe, but instead of D'Qar I'd put Crait on that list instead. D'Qar base will be immediately evacuated at the beginning of the film and we'll most likely only see it from the perspective of space.

In the case of TFA, I was completely surprised by the whole Eravana sequence, but at that time I wasn't on Twitter or any Star Wars forum. ;) I guess I would put two and two together if I was.

For some reason I don't think there will be an unexpected major location in TLJ. Glimpses, if anything,

What sequence do you mean by this? I think you either misspelled the name or I somehow never heard of it...

That's the name of Han's freighter. :) They didn't say it in the film itself.

Yeah, googled it now :D I Somehow missed that the ship was called Eravana, thanks :)
Now that you mention it, I don't think I expected it either before the first viewing.

I think a lot of surprises await us in the second act, they haven't shown us much from it... at least to me it doesn't seem like it.

We've seen A LOT of Ach-To where we start and A LOT of Crait which is more than likely where we end... but in-between? The footage and information has been sparse.

I'm extremely surprised by the lack of Canto Bight in trailers. It looks to be a huge chunk of the second act. I guess some stuff that is going to happen there is going to be a surprise for the general audience.

Now I'm trying to think of what the 3 major locations were for R1. I only remember Scariff and Jeddah

Remember earlier this year when we heard that the ST would visit 3 "classic" Star Wars planets?

Well, we haven't seen any so far, including in what we know of TLJ.

So, I'd say there are three options-

    1) That claim is no longer, or never was, valid (probably the most likely scenario)

    2) All three locations will be in EPIX (seems like a lot for just one movie)

    3) There is at least one classic location in TLJ that we don't know about yet (seems unlikely, but I suppose a flashback could count)

I'd say Eadu, for sure. I wouldn't count Yavin IV, Coruscant, Rings of Khafrene, Lah'mu, or Wobani, as they're all incredibly minor or are in flashbacks.

    5 locations.

D'Qar, Ach-Tu, Canto Bight, Crait, the Supremacy.

Agreed, I think this is the only reason people get the impression that there might be an additional planet we don't know of yet.

But that planet's name is Canto Bight, obviously.

The 150 minute runtime is long, but it's not overly long and actually very similar to the 142 minute runtime of AOTC. We already know they'll visit 4 planets:

    Ahch-To
    D'Qar
    Canto Bight
    Crait

Additionally, we can except lots of scenes to take place on the Supremacy, quite possibly in the final act. So this leaves us with the exact same amount of locations as AOTC, if you count the Supremacy as a "planet".

D'Qar probably plays a relatively small role, maybe just 20 minutes of film. This is a 150 minute movie, there has to be more locations. I hope so. I mean, Canto Bight and Crait are really the only new planets (that we know of). Crait is sort of relatively boring planet, from a visual standpoint. I'm hoping Canto Bight makes up for that shortcoming. We might get brief scenes from other planets. Question: wasn't Mustafar suppose to return? And remember that rumor of a scene or two from Endor?? I sure hope there are a bunch of surprises awaiting us.

Hopefully there will be some good twists and turns in the movie.

Maybe they could go back to Coruscant?
