The wolfmen are almost identical to these guys seen in Ralph Mcquarries concept art below, there are at least 2 of them skulking around set and they are apparently "very cool"

I actually have an update I thought I was never going to get regarding this entire scene which changes my mind slightly about the role Lupita Nyong'o role. I first said she was the owner/bartender at this "Cantina" she was certainly an authority figure, also that she had CGI markers on her face. These things still stand but one thing I could not put together was the artwork and descriptions of a puppet/cgi creature mentioned by @MakingStarWars and the fact I knew Lupita was actually live in the scene, which pointed towards CGI being added to her face. I now have an update, so simple it puts an almost certainty on her Character...........

Lupita was filmed doing her scenes on her knees, she was wearing kneepads. She had CGI markers on her face and was wearing head apparatus with a camera and extremely bright light pointing directly in her face, this alone points towards only her face being used as opposed to CGI beig added to her face. Secondly each of her scenes were filmed twice over with a "Little Person" filming the same as her, this is either a place holder for a CGI character or Lupita's face is being placed on a smaller persons body. I was told the "Little Person" was very forceful and pushing there way past the bar members legs and knocking them out the way, which still fits with the character being an authority figure in this establishment.

Lastly some small things, I mentioned this guy before, as being some sort of Butcher. He is, he is sat in the scene chopping "rats" with a meat clever.

Also there is...........foosball in the star wars universe, well something similar being played, CGI will be added. There is also a really cool "Large Monster" sat almost in a throne type chair, the puppet is operated by 3 guys and is quite muscular, with only three fingers on each hand and is almost "oriental warrior" looking. There is an immense amount going on, alot of small stuff not even worth mentioning, but its looking fun apparently.

Mark Hamill's beard is "medium length" <-----Spoiler of the year xD

Well a "Bit" shorter than this picture.....

    Peace Out

Yeah, its just all the process of connecting dots, until 4 days ago, I could not fathom how Lupita was not in the scene as "Herself" because the only info I had was that she was physically in the scene but just with CGI markers on her face, which would imply CGI would be added to her.

Then the whole on her knees, head apparatus, "little person" coupled specifically with the concept described of "Rose" serving in a bar............kinda all fits.

This is from bottom right hand corner of that photo and it lets you see more of the face.

    image.jpg

If they already had these on the set then I can't personally surmise that Lupita would be playing another one of them via CGI.

No these are just Cantina creatures which are "background" for the scene. Lupita's character as we are slowly finding out is much difference, theres alot of info on the main contender for her character on Makingstarwars website.

So going off of when this image was posted (I believe this came about after the European premiere of Guardians Of The Galaxy), we can presume that much of his scenes were filmed around that time. I do know that the Skellig Michael scenes were filmed right after that premiere. We also know that he filmed scenes after he shaved the beard, and it's likely that he filmed scenes before he even grew it.

Well I can't remember "when" my source met with Hamill at Pinewood, the only time that vaguely rings a bell, is when I mentioned Benedict Cumberbatch had filmed his scene, which also happened to be the same time Peter Jackson visited the set................I think, there was 2 runs of days, but its most likely the Cumberbatch/Jackson dates............or not, I am not much use to the "beardgate" theory.

No disrespect, but it strikes me as a bit odd that they would bother filming a little person on-set and also film Lupita on-set, on her knees, simply to capture her face. Surely Lupita's contribution to that process would be done off-set in a more suitable environment. And I thought the other main difference between MSW's description of Rose and this scene as you described it was that MSW's Rose has a big blue/grey alien head?

Sounds more like they were doing mo-cap on Lupita (doubt they'd have CGI markers and headgear on her if it was her face they were intending to add to the finished shot) to capture her performance for a digital character, a la Serkis.
    andy-serkis-motion-capture-slice.jpg

Still - if that's what you heard, that's what you heard, man. Thanks for the update. :)

This is the questions I had once I got my update, see before I only knew that Lupita was in the scene and that her face had CGI markers, hence why I thought it was only CGI on her face.

The only explanation I can think of is she is there to capture lighting on her face, I have no idea what the head apparatus does there was bright lights shining straight into her face, I dont know if this is measuring light levels etc, not sure. The other reason might be to make it more "real" not only in lighting etc but the performance. The fact she was on her knees with kneepads on suggests they are not doing motion capture.

Also the little person is either 1 of 2 things, they are there to get movement from the extras as she "barges" past them, knocking them out the way and she is going to be completely replaced with CGI or they will be using the body and adding to it, the face, any other adjustments.

I don't watch alot of behind the scenes stuff, I dont know if this method has been used for anything else, maybe someone with more experience could tell us.

Edit: I also cannot tell you if she was wearing any other mo-cap equipment, again I don't have 100 questions and answers from my guy, I litterally ge told or have to gently throw stuff into conversation. But if it wasn't mentioned with the whole head apparatus and kneepads stuff I dunno :/

They´re probably taking the approach for Planet of The Apes for her motion capture. She has markers all over, a camera and light pointing to her face and cameras all over the studio to track her motion. She´s on her knees to get her character´s real stature related to the rest of the cast. The little person serves to scenes like when they´re going through people or interacting with things (they did the same with Lord of the Rings for the Hobbits). She´s then going to be fully replaced with CGI. But it seems it´s going to be a very high quality CGI like Planet of The Apes. The might also have some little guy in costume, to have a guide as how the light and shadows interact with the character. Actually, The Imaginarium, Andy Serkis´ Motion Capture studio is involved in the film, so they should be giving support in this process:

Wasn't there some concept art of a small creature in a room with Rey and Finn igniting a sabre? It could be that the light shining on her face is the effect of the sabre being on in a dark environment.

I believe the "bright light shining on her face" is for motion capture purposes. The white dots need to be constantly lit so that the data is properly captured. But I would guess that Lupita's character is what we see in the pic above either way.

I think originally our heroes came across the little blue maybe Rose much earlier, but as the script adapted they changed when they meet her
