SPECULATION Potential Storylines .

Galen Erso, Saw Gerrera and any major players for the Rebellion at the time won't be there. This might not even be a pure origin story, seeing how Donald Glover is playing Lando, who we know is doing his own thing and not part of the Empire in Rebels. Let there be scum and villainy, and don't forget, even if George did have him as a young kid in concept art for ROTS, he's still a Correlian...

 

Yeah, I don't think we're getting Saw or Galen. The Catalyst novel does describe a smuggler like that, but I seriously doubt it's Han. And we really don't need to know the story behind the story of getting the Death Star plans.

No, I think we're going to see a very different film this time. Probably a lot of scum and mercs, and very light Imperial presence. I'd love to see classic bounty hunters like Bossk and IG-88, some EU stuff like Aurra Sing and Cad Bane, and some new ones.

What I'm thinking I'd like to see is a sort of "Smokin' Aces" kind of plot, where Lando's gambling gets him in trouble with a crime boss- not Jabba, maybe someone based on Xixior or Tyber Zann- and all of the galaxy's biggest bounty hunters come in to try to take him down. Cad Bane, Fett, Bossk, Aurra Sing, IG-88, Greedo, Bossk, etc (would be really cool to see Embo, too!)... Han, with his seedy life, gets roped into tracking down the bounty too to make a living, as well as a Wookie named Chewbacca. Eventually, Han, Chewie, and Lando all make nice and fight back against the Xixior-inspired boss, while Boba Fett tracks down and kills Cad Bane, becoming the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy.

 

The movie opens right in the middle of a Sabacc game, with a young Han playing cards with some very dangerous players and gets caught cheating. He has to pull some of his lucky antics to get out alive ( insert any iconic Han Solo line ) and escapes by stealing a starship with a special cargo for a high ranking imperial, who puts out a bounty on Han. While trying to get rid of the cargo he meets up with Chewy and saves his life and Chewy envokes a life debt to Han. They then decide to hide the cargo for later.
All the best Bounty Hunters in the galaxy purse Han and Chewy. Bossk, Cad Bane, etc. and are able to fight their way out until a Bad a-s Boba Fett tracks them down and takes them both in.
While in the brig Han learns of a huge Sarbacc tournament coming up from another smuggler, played by Emilia Clark. The three devise a plan to escape where they are being imprisoned on an imperial star destroyer under the command of Grand Mof Tarkin. They get past a quick cameo of Darth Vader and steal Tarkins ship "The Carrion Spike". Vader then add libs a dead pan humor line about how easy it is to steal Tarkins ship ( reference to TARKIN novel).

They make their way to the Sabacc tournament and Han makes it to the final round and faces off against the tournaments host Lando Calressian. In the last and deciding game Lando has to throw in any starship on his lot to cover his final bet, and loses. Under protest from Lando, Han pics the Millinium Falcon.

They use the Falcon to pick up the imperial cargo they hid and meet with Jabba the Hutt who agrees to take the stolen imperial cargo off their hands and get the empire off his back. But Jabba being Jabba decides to turn it into a game and tells Han that he will get them off the hook only if he and Chewy can go to the planet Kessel and pick up a shipment of spice and bring it back to Jabba in under 12 parsecs.

And of course the rest is history...

That's be cool too, the Casino Royale of Star Wars.

I do like the idea of branching out into different genres with these films. A more gritty war film with R1, an Assassin or Gambling film with Han Solo- really fleshes out the universe a little more.

 

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away ..

A Star Destroyer lurks overhead. A shuttle is dispatched down to the planet Kashyyyk. Aboard is Han Solo, an Imperial Admiral, now the Overseer of the Death Star construction. His life is truly dedicated to the Empire. But then he meets Chewie, sees the destruction the Empire is creating, and frees all the Wookiees, slowing production of the Death Star. He escapes (barely) with Chewie. Jabba the Hutt finds him and offers him a job as a smuggler to get away from his crimes against the Empire. He is hired to make a run for special cargo. He needs a ship, so he plays Lando. Lando joins him in the run (although unknown). The movie is centered around the run (with the Kessel Run in there) and the climax is the cargo is dropped because of Imperials.​

 

Now that would be an interesting twist.

Unfortunately, I feel like we'd have heard about it in Rogue One or the Catalyst novel. But I like the way you think!

 

Title: Solo's 11.

Han Solo's is caught cheating at the best casino in Las Hutta and is then tasked by the Casino owner to take steal something from his competitors. Han then assembles Lando, Chewie, Fett, Maz, a droid or two to help out.

 

Han Solo is an Imperial pilot hauling Cargo 4 the Empire (Like Bohdi) On a cargo run headed for Kashyyyk.....

My two galactic credits:

1) The obvious storylines: The Millenium falcon doing the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs (whatever that means... see more details below).
2) Han winning the falcon to Landon in some gambling game.
3) Han's career as smuggler and his relationship with Jabba and other folks like Greedo, Boba Fett, etc

No rocket science there. What else would I want to see:
4) Clarification of the meaning of "parsec". In ANH, the phrase "in less than 12 parsecs" gives the impression that a parsec is a unit of time. This is technically incorrect. Parsec is a unit of distance. One parsec is the distance at which one astronomical unit (which is the average distance from Earth to Sun) subtends an angle of one arcsecond. A parsec is equal to about 3.26 light-years (31 trillion kilometres or 19 trillion miles) in length. The nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is about 1.3 parsecs (4.2 light-years) from the Sun. So, 12 parsecs would be 39.12 light-years.
In recent SW movies, directors are making a better effort in how science is portrayed. Rogue One had some nice scenes of planets with rings, eclipses, and light being bent by gravity. It would be nice to find a way to reconcile that a parsec is a unit of distance without messing up Han's original story, which was bragging about how fast the ship was. I have some ideas, but I would leave them for another post.
5) Cameos. If my dates are correct, Ford was 33 when he played Solo in ANH. Ehrenreich is 27 (6 years younger). So placing the Young Solo movie before Episode III is not an option (Han would need to be 14 or younger). Therefore, we can guesstimate that in the SW timeline, this movie could be approximately 13 years after Episode III and 6 years prior to ANH. So, knowing that Jabba is based in Tatooine, we could potentially see cameos of Kenobi, Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Episode III was a 2005 movie and the Young Han Solo will be a 2018 movie. That's 13 years of difference. A happy coincidence? The three actors who played these roles in ROTS are looking today perfectly 13 years older than in the previous movie. It's a an opportunity they shouldn't miss. Perhaps Han may not have contact with Kenobi and the Lars, but Chewie could. In ANH, Kenobi and Chewie talk as if they knew it from before. Chewie knows Yoda, so they have a friend in common. We wouldn't see Luke but we could see how Owen Lars becomes protective of him and forbids Ben (he shouldn't call him Obi-Wan by then) to come in contact with his step-nephew.
6) More reference to SW Rebels than we saw in Rogue One. We saw Lando in Rebels. So, we can expect some connections there.
7) A little Force. We know Han hadn't witness the Force prior to ANH, so he shouldn't be in contact with any Jedi, like Kanan or Ezra, who are supposed be alive 5 years prior to ANH, but I don't think it could be a problem if we see a ex-Sith. Not Maul. We have already seen a lot of him in TCW and Rebels. Perhaps, it would be time to see Ventress. Wouldn't it be great if Emilia Clarke plays that character? Ventress could be someone who has a double life/personality.

 

Ford was playing 29 in ANH.

So this movie can ge set 2 to 5 years B4 ANH.

I won't mind if this is a Force free film.

Oh & for the ♡ of God! Please! Can we end this film with a happy ending! We haven't had a happy ending SW film.......



SINCE 19 FREAKING 99!!!!!! It ended with a celebration.

AOTC, a doomed wedding and war. ROTS, God that was sad. TFA, Han . Deadbeat Luke.

And now R1.....EVERYBODY DEAD!

Please! A happy ending with and flying off with into Hyperspace!

 

Actually, Ford was born in 1942. ANH was released in 1977, but filming started in March 1976. Ford turned 34 in July 1976. So, the actor was indeed 33 during main photography of ANH.

 

Another storyline came to mind: love story between Maz Kanata and Chewbacca. Remember that he used to be Kanata's boyfriend.
We should expect to see Han and Chewie visiting the planet Takodana, to meet with Maz. Perhaps we will see some cameos of other known pirates like Hondo. Not sure how the two of them would fall in love, but I can predict how they will kiss goodbye at the end:

Chewie: Uuuuuur Ahhhhhrrrr Uhrrr Ahhhrrr Aaaarhg!
* Inside the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon *
Solo: You "know"? That's best you could come up with? You ain't know anything about women.
Chewie: Uuuuuur Ahhhhhrrrr Uhrrr Ahhhrrr Aaaarhg!

 

Basic outline.....

Han will work for/with Woody's character (maybe a prolog will show a very young Han joing his crew).

early in the film Harrelson will betray his crew and Han will be the only survivor. During his quest for revenge against Harrelson (and potentially payment he is owed) he'll meet Chewie and Lando and use Lando's ship the Falcon.

The film will end with the card game between Han and Lando - we don't see the resolution on screen.

 

Please! No WH in SW!

 

In two hours of pure, unadulterated fan service we get...

Han meeting Chewie.

Han winning the Falcon.

The Kessel run.

Han dumping his cargo.

Han shooting first.

The Battle of Tanaab.

Jabba the Hutt. Boba Fett!

And Han brushing past Leia on Coruscant and scoffing, "Princesses!"
