****This is not a prequel bashing thread****

I was just wondering, as we embark on a new odyssey of Star Wars movies (ST... and what will follow), since The Prequel Trilogy serves as a backstory to what happens to the character of Darth Vader, do you think it could be possible in the future that a "Contracted edition" of all 3 prequel movies so someone, that just want to jump in at any point in the Star Wars Saga could understand the backstory of the characters, without having to watch 7hrs of movies.

That, of course, could also apply to the OT, but... only time will tell.

    What do you think?

There was a fan cut of the PT into a single movie and I think it was like 2 hours long. I believe it has since been removed from the internet.

The Vader debut always memorable, when that first breath exited that mask, I get chills every time.

Can we do the same for the OT? Let's just make a long trailer then no one has to actually sit through a whole SW movie!

@MarsPhoenix, I don't this will ever happen. From what I feel, these movies, with all their flaws, allowed us to move slowly to an interconnected Canon of movies, films, etc. TCW, being the prime example. I think we will see Disney buy all films, make and original, non-specialized OT Blu-Ray, a new Blu-Ray with actual fixes, Han shooting Greedo dead, better CGI like the Specialized Jabba to 2004 Jabba in ANH was, an possibly some scenes being added back, like the Rebel Alliance talks of ROTS. And overall, these films will be played on Disney over and over so every kid will see them as ling as Disney exists.

I think they already did that.

It's called Revenge of the Sith. ;)

Seriously, the vast majority of the story that Lucas had in mind for the prequels ended up in ROTS. If anyone had never watched a Star Wars movie and wanted to get the gist of how Darth Vader and the Empire came to be, ROTS would give them the vital information.

Hmmm I disagree. TPM and AotC lay the necessary groundwork both for Anakin's psychological complexes and for Palpatine's rise to power. I wouldn't recommend anyone skipping either film - or TCW for that matter - if they really want to understand the Saga.

Given enough time has passed (think at least two decades from now), I personally wouldn't mind seeing a series of films that focus on the experience of Skywalkers during the PT and OT and fills in some of the gaps between the movies, bringing the new non-film canon that will come out to film.

Consider a movie (1.5 to 2 hours) focusing on Anakin and the PT from his viewpoint, with a movie following that focused on Luke and his viewpoint of the OT. Some mixing of the two might be necessary as well. And of course, there's a possibility of a third focusing on the possible continuation of the line in the ST, if that happens.

Would it work? I don't know. Seems it might be too tight or compressed, seem to pass too quickly. Then again, that's what we'd be going for would it not? I'd certainly be interested in seeing how it'd be done. Perhaps as an animated movie akin to TCW, so that you can keep the same appearance of the characters and even recreate scenes while bringing in good voice casting to make it work.
