For those of you who haven't read the excerpt, Star Wars: Aftermath will be introducing us to the world of Akiva, an Outer Rim planet where the Trade Federation once had a droid manufacturing facility. Wedge Antilles mentions that the Rebel Alliance actually acquired many droids from this foundry.

At the moment, we don't have any idea when exactly these droids were procured, and while it's possible they obtained the droids between Episodes IV and V, I think it may be even more likely they were obtained before Episode IV, which leads me to speculate that at some point in Rebels, we may see the Rebels travel to Akiva and acquire several battle droids for use against the Empire.

The voice actor for the battle droids in Star Wars: The Clone Wars was Matthew Wood, who also happens to be the Supervising Sound Editor at Skywalker Sound. Wood has done work on Rebels, even voicing a few stormtroopers and Phoenix 1. If battle droids were to be included in Rebels at some point, they already have the voice actor for all of them working on the show, so there'd be no hassle of having to contact another voice actor to do then.

Unless they decide to have Rebel Alliance battle droids in a book or novel set between IV and V, Rebels seems to be the most likely time period to use them in, and I would not be surprised if there were a few episodes in which the Rebels used battle droids against the Empire in a later season.
