Btw what I find very interesting is that Sam Witwer who is the new voice of Maul since TCW is also the voice of Vader's secret apprentice in TFU D .

Such a great episode! Not just how it makes you consider the grand impact of not just Rebels but it's implications on Episode VIII and IX. Especially the mixture of the Light Side and the Dark Side with the holcrons. It reminded me of this quote from Snoke in The Force Awakens novel.

" It is where you are from. What you are made of. The dark sideā€”and the light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work."

It gives me goosebumps to think about what Snoke could be capable of doing and what he wants of Kylo Ren and his embodiment of Light and Dark.

Hopefully we'll also have an Obi-Wan spinoff! Darth Maul hunting Obi-Wan down would be so interesting and possibly him trying to recruit Luke to bring down the Emperor and to the Dark Side.

I had a thought. Let me know what you guys think.

The yoda quote "Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." makes me think that instead of garbagy genie powers granted by the mixing of the holocrons, it was instead bubble of pure force energy, which amplified the users force insight. Kanan wasn't seeing by the light of the holocron....he was seeing Ezra as he really is, a luminous being.

I don't think Darth Maul wants to kill Kenobi... I believe that the Jedi represents his last chance for revenge against Darth Sidious and the one they call Vader. Obi Wan is Maul's last hope.... until he senses Luke and then Rebels version of old wounds happens.

Great episode. I think it is a foregone conclusion that Kenobi finishes off Maul at some point this season. Maul was supposed to be killed off in the season finale last year but they decided against it. While keeping him alive allows them to keep conflict with Ezra, It becomes apparent they wanted to more.

@P1B5F. You are spot on with your interpretation of the scene with the joining of the Holocrons. That is exactly the way I interpreted it.

I love how they are focusing on the mysticism of the Force. I hope we see of that in in episode VIII

So far after 2 episodes season 3 of Rebels looks to be the best yet. I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

Whatever he does, I think he just simply wants closure with Kenobie because if he gets into the open too much he will be killed in a heartbeat .

I know. I was just using it as an opportunity to quote Phantom Menace. I don't get to do that often. ;)

    But rally though...

Also, I think it would be cool for Maul to have a story arc based on this episode to do some sort of "duel of the fates" with his own secret apprenteices vs. Vader's as a prequel of sorts to what we've seen in the comics so far

Both Maul and ezra had their questions answered

Maul - Obi Wan is alive on tatooine

Ezra - The key to destroying the sith "two suns" = luke skywalker, also on tatooine.

It was a nice way to continue the duality that was a core thread through the episode.

Is "two suns" really the hint to Luke or couldn't it also lead to Vader?

I think it was pointing to Obi-Wan, who is on Tatooine.

But I'd love it if they were bringing back Journal of the Whills stuff. "The son of suns."

And in a classic case of synchronicity, after typing the few lyrics I remember from a random song that's been bouncing around in my head all day into a search engine, I finally track it down only to find it's from an album titled ... TWO SUNS! Strong is the power of the dual holocron...

The dual holocron thing doesn't sit well with me. It's just a bit too magical. But the fact that "two suns" came up from some random song stuck in your head is about the raddest thing ever.

Yes, but in this case it most likely points to Luke. You could argue though that it refers to both Luke and Anakin, as both of Tatooine's suns bring life and death to the world of Tatooine. They work in tandem, and only by working in tandem can Luke help Anakin achieve his destiny.

You could also argue that the twin suns bring life to the planet, and only when Anakin discovered he had twin children, did he turn back to the light and bring "life" back to the galaxy.

Yeah maybe meta this works, but we also have to look at the characters motivation, atm we have less connection to Luke then to Vader. Ezra and Maul has still something to settle with Vader, and ultimately Vader was the one who brings balance according to Lucas.
