SPECULATION Rey is a Kenobi. The Parallel of Rey's story is with Obi-Wan, not Luke.

There was a theory that Rey's full first name was Naberrie (so her full name if she was a Skywalker would be Naberrie Skywalker), which would sound like Rey when shortened.

A worthy opinion, and yet a partially clouded one. The first reason I think so is fact: J. J. Abrams stated that Rey's father does not appear in TFA. Does that include voices? Rey hears Obi-Wan's voice in her vision.

Obi-Wan believes in the Jedi Order's restrictions, even after its collapse. There are to be no attachments. And yet, for more astute readers, you will remember that in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Duchess Satine is involved in a kind-of relationship with Kenobi. Could Kenobi have been secretly having affairs with the Mandalorian? Of course, this theory is unfounded because the Duchess died long before Rey could have been born.

Is it possible that Kenobi is Rey's father? Yes. Is it likely? Not in my opinion. I think it would be cool if Rey was a Fett.

No, it is not possible for Obi-Wan to be Rey's father, as he died decades beføre her birth, but the theory hinges on Rey being a Kenobi, related to Obi-Wan in some way, perhaps as his granddaughter or a niece or something. I ascribe to this theory myself, for no other reason than Rey playing a role in The Force Awakens VERY similar to Obi-Wan's in A New Hope - that GOT to mean something, and the simplest assumption is that the film makers hint to Rey's heritage. That said, there could be another explanation entierly, but my money is on Rey Kenobi :)

It's certainly possible, but I think Rey being Palpatine's secret granddaughter is more likely than her being a Kenobi ;)

No, it's not possible for Rey to be Obi-Wan's daughter. He died four years before the events of "Return of the Jedi".

Rey Kenobi is one of the three theories out there that I believe are the most 'interesting'.

Why would a Skywalker story pop up after all of these years?
    Because it can.
Kenobi plays a significant role in all six of the Lucas films. They're as much Kenobi's movies as they are the Skywalker’s. From a certain point of view, of course..

Well also because the stories are predominantly about the sky walkers and it's always been a given that one of the remaining ones would have a kid but Obi-Wan Kenobi on the other hand...that would be harder to explain.

Well, they did. Ben Solo. So if you make Rey a skywalker also, well, ReyLo becomes yet another incest deal. Not to mention it will be the lamest plot bomb in movie history.
Kenobi has issues but you can do something more creative with his lineage.

i'm not saying she's a skywalker...And Ben Solo is still A Skywalker but not A Skywalker by a direct surname...I mean, it would be interesting no matter what if she's a Kenobi but it would be complicated to explain the entire backstory and it would sideline the skywalkers because of the emphasis that's being put on the character and that's not what the main saga movies are about as Kathleen Kennedy has said they're about the skywalkers predominantly.

Ok, so it's not enough to have a skywalker in the story they must have the last name..
You're dealing with a difficult to explain situation no matter who the daddy is. Luke comes with his own bag of problems not the least of which is his relationship to Unkar Plott; the worst foster parent ever. Then you got mommy, and the twenty questions that follows her. Then you got the lack of any mention of wife and kids in Bloodline to answer.
And isn't Rey dumped on Jakku before the academy attack.
Point is, every real theory out there right now needs a lengthy explanation.. even the three that I like. And one those three does involve Luke btw.

I swear, if I read one more time that Ben is not a Skywalker because his surname (potentially) is not, I'm going to shoot myself. Leia is as much Skywalker as Luke. Full stop. To say otherwise is idiotic. Progeny of either Leia or Luke would be equally a Skywalker. Equally! It is a question of bloodline, and not a cultural naming convention.

For those who think that surname is inherited only via a male descendant, then if Rey was a Skywalker you will have exactly the same problem - any progeny she may potentially have in the future would also by that logic not be a Skywalker, (unless it is a result of incest, that is) which is ridiculous. If the name can be carried on only through a male descendant of a male descendant, and thus the insistence that only a progeny of Luke's can be a "true" Skywalker, then the same (very faulty and problematic) "logic" would apply to Rey as she is female.

To say that genetic inheritance is somehow diminished if it is through a female line is idiotic.

Again, it is a question of bloodline, not naming convention. There is zero doubt that Ben/Kylo is a Skywalker. Zero.

These movies are about the Skywalkers - we have Luke, Leia, Anakin/Vader's "shadow" and continuing influence, and of course Ben/Kylo who is the grandson of Anakin Skywalker. How many more Skywalkers does the story has to have in order to make it about the Skywalkers???

The saga is about the Skywalkers, but also their story ALWAYS involved Kenobi. It is narratively sound that this connection would be somehow continued in the ST. The most satisfying way to have a Kenobi involved with the fate of the Skywalkers would be for Rey to be a descendant of Kenobi. It's really that simple.

In the same way you will have to explain the mysterious absent wife of Luke, they can explain Rey being a Kenobi.

So, for me Rey being a Kenobi is a great way to tie up all the saga. All 9 movies. Her being the granddaughter of Obi-Wan and Ben/Kylo being the grandson of Anakin is the most satisfying way to complete/continue the story.

Of course, they might have chosen to go another way, but I think storywise, the most satisfying is for Rey to be a Kenobi. To make her Luke's daughter is the least interesting story in my opinion.

As I was saying, the Kenobi theory is much more interesting than the 'deadbeat Luke' or 'Shambala wambala Anakin Skywalker' theories. And when combined with the 'Disney Princess of the Empire' theory, you get something very interesting:

Kenobi did not make little Kenobi's. He learned from Anakin's example that making children ultimately results in debt and desolution.(epic fail)

I honestly agree with the theory that Rey is a Kenobi. It makes sense. Obi Wan always felt like he failed Anakin, and this failure has never been explored or redeemed throughout the saga. If Obi Wan's granddaughter redeems Anakin's grandson, Obi Wan may have, in a way completed his mission. Also the parallel between Obi Wan fighting Anakin on Mustafar would fit in nicely with Rey fighting Ren on Starkiller Base, as both Kenobis left both Skywalkers gravely injured. What I find most intriguing about this theory is that it really sets the story on the path of bringing balance to the Force. Anakin's redemption in ROTJ wasn't the whole story. Obi wan always felt like a failure to him. The book Kenobi, however not considered canon poses this idea very well. Obi Wan is angry, almost bitter because he felt responsible for what happened to Anakin. He was unable to stop him from turning to the Dark Side, so his final mission was to make sure that one day the horror would end, and that the Jedi would live on. From my perspective, I believe that the reason Obi Wan truly failed was because he never forgave Anakin. Darth Vader destroyed everything Obi Wan cared about, including his best friend and brother Anakin. He had a right to be angry. But this anger meant that neither of them could be redeemed and it was up to Luke to find the good inside his father. But despite this, Obi Wan was still never redeemed. Perhaps it is up to his legacy Rey to bring balance to the Force and complete the mission Obi Wan was unable to complete.

So why didn't he come back for Luke when he was like, three. Why did he wait until Luke was 19.. twice the age the Council refused Anakin Skywalker at. I appreciate this 'Kenobi keeps to the code' sentiment many of my friends here have, but if that was the case Luke would have been swinging the Graflex when he was 5.. not 19.(lightsaber)
I mean, we're talking two handwipes tops and Kenobi's got the kid back.(obi-wan 2)
