Would like to see a cybernetic leg in the movie, some scene similar to the Luke's hand at the end of TESB.

well, there's no arguing that. and the whole skywalker family has such a tidy history of doing stupid things.

I don't Rey will lose a limb because of two reasons: It would be two repetitive of the second film of the two trilogies. Though the Force Awakens was a great movie, it pretty blatantly copied moments from A New Hope. The second is that Disney's not going to have its female protagonist suffer a limb loss like Luke and Anakin did. I think it's more likely that she gets some other type of injury during the climax duel of Episode 8. I'll be surprised if she even gets as injured as Finn did.

    Gradual scale of improvement:
    Anakin looses ...a lot
    Luke looses.....his hand
    Leia looses.......her son
    Ben looses...... his face!
Rey looses....... ? ("Me too, big secret!")...I'd say her identity for a moment, but certainly not something phsycial.

I am trying to think...oh right, yes, Leia's idea of jumping into the garbage chute is one of the stupidest ideas the Skywalker family has done...and it nearly got them all killed. lol so yeah, it definitely runs in the family and not mention that it was a epic fail on Rey's part to reset the fuses that resulted those creatures to attack everyone and Finn nearly got killed. I would also like to point out that Rey has this ...thing where she thinks that this will work if she does this but at times, it doesn't work that way. This is where overconfidence comes into play. She thinks if she resets the fuses it would trap both gangs but that's not what happened...her way of doing things nearly got them all killed. Think before you try to fix something that can't be fixed...don't do...but if I were her, I would have thought twice about doing something stupid that led to ...."It's a trap!" If the idea doesn't work, another solution will present itself... be patient Rey!

I think that people woefully overestimate Disney's unwillingness to put her through stuff moving forward:

-First of all, they already did that, she's the first of the three main heroes in the three trilogies to get captured by the bad guys AT ALL in her debut film (and it was her mistake that caused it).

-Second, Disney has put it's female leads through tough crap lots of times in the past, so it'd be nothing new for them.

-Third, they hired Rian Johnson, who's known for his darker style, to direct AND write their second film (which tends to be the darkest one in general). Which is very telling.

-And Fourth, KK is a smart woman and she's been in this business for a long time, and involved in SW for a long time as well. She knows that knocking your hero's down and dragging them to their lowest point is not only dramatically necessary, but it makes them all the more endearing since it makes their eventual triumph all the more satisfying.

    -Etc.

So yes, I expect that she's headed for a fall in this film. Will it be the same way as with Luke, probably not. But it is coming.

er...Leia was captured in the opening scene of ANH. also in Bespin in TESB. also in Jabba's palace in ROTJ.
i mean, i guess i'm agreeing with you, but your opening statement isn't accurate.

i fully expect Rey to be trounced by Kylo Ren in viii.

    trounced

I'm talking about the MAIN hero (Luke in the OT, Anakin in the PT, and Rey in the ST). Apologies if I didn't make that clear enough.

As for Rey getting beaten, I still like the idea of Kylo deliberately scarring her face in a similar way to her scarring his last time.

-It seems like the kind of pettily sadistic thing that he'd do.
-You could do the whole "hero gets maimed in movie #2," while putting your own spin on it.
-Rey showing up in Episode IX with cool-looking battle scars would be awesome.

hahaha ~ i had this thought he'd lop off her hand or get in a good hit and then be like: oops! crap, sorry!
...because he's soooo not even trying to hit her in TFA.

of course he might reconsider that strategy in viii: and i agree he could be petty about the burn.

i'm okay if she gets cut or not. it doesn't do anything for the character one way or another for me.

I voted none, but this expresses my initial sentiments exactly. I don't think she should lose a limb because it would be too much of a rehash, however if she does it has to be meaningful to the story. She can take battle scars in combat to indicate injury, but she does not have to immediately lose a limb.

Hehe, now we get near to the real thoughts of Luke when Rey confronts him with the old saber: "Oh no, keep that thing. I really wanna keep my limbs." ;-)

"Using it didn't work out to well for my dad either." ;)

I don't NEED her to be physically maimed (she does need to suffer a setback I think). if maiming happens fine, if not, well then ok. My only caveat to that is that they should under NO circumstances think to themselves "she's a woman, so we cannot do that to her, or people might complain). It'd be extremely disrespectful/insulting to both Rey as a character and Daisy Ridley as an actress. And they'd be undermining their own premise (wanting her to be taken just as seriously as an action hero as the men were) by treating her with kid gloves.

Now Rian Johnson, from what I've seen of his previous work, doesn't seem like the type of director/writer that would think like that. But we'll see I guess.

Agreed. I'd actually much prefer this to full-on limb losing.

Well we already had a torture scene which was already too risque for some people. And at the end of the movie she was pretty bruised up. I'd rather have them do something creative than letting her loose all sorts of body parts. I'd rather have her loose something of herself, something emotional.

Agreed but if she is a Skywalker is seems like a continuous family tradition.
